King's Day

I only picked up the G4s I found reasonable looking, at some point you've seen so very many Twilight Sparkles and Rainbow Dashes that not every single one is worth it... Not to mention the haircuts and markers on some of them! Yikes!

But I'm super glad everyone had fun and still found some nice ponies and other things! I've been loving waving my lightsaber around, those 4 euros were so worth it

Oooh, I wish I could be there too. I watched a video of King's Day, and what a lovely atmosphere.

There's always next year to save up for an trip ;)

It's really worth a trip. Also the night before, if you like to party with many people. Most people in the Netherlands speak english very well, so communication isn't an issue.

My kids and I are seriously contemplating this! What might you suggest as an area to visit for this purpose?
In general I'd stick to the bigger cities, because you're sort of guaranteed to have a big party and enough English-speaking folk to accommodate you. However, bigger (at least by Dutch terms haha) isn't confined to Amsterdam. The ones that could be suitable off the top of my head are: Rotterdam, Den Haag, Zwolle, Enschede, Leiden, and Groningen. (Fellow Dutchies feel free to chime in!) It's not that Amsterdam would be a bad choice, but *everyone* goes to Amsterdam ya know?

If at all possible, I'd even recommend sticking around until the 5th of May. It's the day we celebrate our liberation from German occupation, and there's a lot of fun and free festivals for the occasion. Not so important for pony-shopping, but a fun outing!

Hope this helps you Rebel ;)

With children going to one of the islands for a couple of days might be an idea. I don't know about those in the Netherlands, but Borkum (the most west german island) is nice.

Go to Amsterdam if you want to be sqooshed in the masses.

But Utrecht is really nice too <3 Leiden's children's market on Kingsday is surprisingly small though (that's one I always visit. It is that one city that has busses going to the 'legendary' Keukenhof :)

@Flicksi The islands of NL, Germany and Denmark are all Unesco heritage sites. You can walk from the mainland to the island of Texel with a guide when it's low tide. I really want to visit Schiermonnikoog, it has one of NL's dark spots to watch the night sky.

But to be fair NL is so small that almost everything is within a 2 hour drive ;)

There are some children's markets on the 5th of May too, but you'll have to know where to look!

Oh my god I completely forgot about the Wadden! Which is ironic because I'M FROM THERE. Ameland, to be specific.

Lovely places, rural nature I'd call it? Great for cycling and enjoying the outdoors. Might be just a bit harder to get around with English, but certainly not impossible. I speak some horrible compound Dutch-German because we get so many tourists - we like to joke we're a German island in summer XD.

But yeah, highly recommend the Wadden!
