Takara Pony 3D models

Ahh she's so cute! I hope she works out well!
It's been suggested to me that the hollow-ness could cause more issues with printing and will need to be sliced like that, please let me know if you all have some suggestions to make it easier! I could make another version with clearer instructions for people and sizing, too!
At some point I made a seapony and a giraffe variation on these guys I have to refine and post here, unfortunately blender is throwing a tantrum today...
She worked out perfectly! The only thing to note and this is probably my printer is that the nose plug and eye stalk insert things come out too big so they have to be shaved down/off. She also doesn’t stand on her own but printing the legs with more infill may fix that.
Here is the finished pony:

I used a hot needle to make plugs for hair and then filled the inside with fabric glue after rooting. Some of the plugs got “lost” and didn't get glued down but rerooting them with glue directly on the hole fixed that.
I'm not sure how many others know about Mermay, since it's farther away from ponies, but I've actually been quite inspired by it so here's some of my recent progress w/ merpony takaras:

Design concepts for the seaponies + merponies + variations with horn / "wings" (flying fish I guess?)

Concepts for stands to help pose them

I made a 3D model of a seapony awhile ago but I redid her to make her ball jointed. Maybe I'll make a variation (Like a "baby pony variant") thats all one piece but I thought it would be cool to preserve the flexibility. She can flap her little fins like a real seahorse! The tail joints may need some sort of locking mechanism to hold themselves in place, but I've seen creators make mermaid tails like this so hopefully it works out...

I gave her a little coral chair to sit in! It also has a piece at the bottom that hopefully she could wrap her tail around.

And here are a bunch of variants for the merpony/seapony: horn and fin-wings self explanatory, then the end of the tail is replaced with a mermaid fin tail

And since the tail is ball-jointed, and the holes for the moveable fins are the same size as the standard arm holes, her arms can be replaced with the standard takara pony arms and the tail can be posed more like a traditional mermaid!

This has been a lot of fun to work on and I'm gonna see if I can get a merpony printed to make a video specifically for mermay. My takara video on yt went over really well so I figured it would be a nice celebration piece before I feel settled with the BJDtakara (Big sister takara? In my head I call the big BJD the big sister takara)

Lastly, looking closely you might see a slight difference with the seapony's eye- it's actually more rounded than the original sculpt. It's something I realized bothered me about the design, so I'm updating it for the future iterations. I'm probably going to be uploading an additional version of the standard takara that is hopefully better for printing, once I get some advice on what to change when I get mine printed at the library maker's lab.
Looks great! Love seaponies.

These look as if they were always meant to be! If the Takaras took off and were successful I could see a line of these having have happened. Great work!

I am liking seeing peoples prints too

She looks GREAT! Love it!

I just adore your sea pony sculpts, Ive been admiring them on Tumblr!!!! I will really have to get access to a 3d printer if you ever want to release those files!!!
I will! I will probably be charging for them in this case, though - the original model will be free as always, but the seapony was basically redone with all new pieces so I think that's fair. Maybe around $15? I don't want to charge too much. I also want to make a cheaper version that's a "baby pony" like the Lili and Popo models without ball joints.

I am going to be test printing them to make sure they work: in fact, I just got an estimate from the library that it will be $9 to print the model I sent them (with a "chair" stand as well), and I should have it by early next week! I'm very excited. The library pricing is $1 to use the printer and 5 cents per gram which means the final result will be around 160 grams.

Kuru kuru with her curls and a temporary dress!
Yay KuruKuru! I think she's like my favorite, I vibe with the green...

Ok one final note re: the ponies, after getting some feedback and (importantly) consulting with the 3D print-Maker at the library, I figured out how to size them so you all shouldn't have to suffer... hopefully. Basically blender sizes everything in Meters but printing programs interpret that as Millimeters so it turns out I had to size everything up or else people had to size it a lot in the printing program.

I now have a v3 version of the pony, available on cults3D and my itch.io, it's basically the same as the previous but I spread out all the parts and it should be better formatted for 3D printing. The final pony should be 13cm minus the ears (about 5in)

It comes with pieces for the arms and the legs that have built-in bars across them. I was hesitant to do this before because these pieces are going to be really small and potentially weak, so it's kind of use at your own risk- however, my understanding is that if you print at a very fine resolution or you're printing in something like resin it should be ok.

The amount of people who've downloaded versions of the takara ponies is kinda crazy to me, when I embarked on this quest I didn't have any idea people would be that interested. I've also learned a lot doing this, my process changed a lot from when I made this thread back in october!

PS the big takaras aren't forgotten, I've been focusing on the seaponies because its mermay but the model for the big takara BJD is basically done. it just needs a little refining here and there, plus I'm planning a variant, the "fluffy version," a flat chested piece with a set of fluffy feet-hoof-things referencing the Big Brother ponies (although it doesn't have to be a boy, it's just the flat chested variant) - I've been calling the BJD the Big Sister Takara Pony in my head.
