Think of it this way... they are made by a company called PLAYMATES and they look like that...
On a side note, we saw those in WallyWorld and my 11yo daughter nearly died from laughter. In person they are kinda comical looking and yes, kinda scary. I would never let my daughter, not that she would justify spending like $15 on one, have one of those... things... *shudders*
