On the box I bought it said 'non permanent'
I spoke to a rep today and she said the one I bought is a 'washes out in 28 shampoos' temporary dye.
But Clairol is better quality, so I guess it's going to last longer anyways... the black dye I bought last Halloween, was really cheap and washed out in about 10 shampoos.
