It's also the name of the God of Trickery in Norse mythology, and that's the nice version. He later became known as the issuer of the apocalypse (Ragnarok) after he sired 3 children of whom are to play a part in the earth's destruction; Fenrir (wolf), Hel (guardian of the underworld) and Jormungand (snake). However, his first child Sleipnir, was an 8 legged horse and was taken by Odin (the all father god) as a mount. I always found that prospective interesting... that, and having an 8 legged horse that could run near the speed of light and walk on air would kick ass...
I also say this because I met a guy who's name was Odin. You would think that he would be of Northman decent but nope, he was Puerto Rican. *chuckle* I asked him about his name and he knew of its origin. But, as to how he got the name, he never did tell me. I also knew a kid growing up whose name was Leif and his sister's name was Candle. I also knew several girls by the name Crystal, Angel, and Summer growing up. A good friend of mine named his daughter Annika after Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars. My sister's names are Mikala (Russian) and Yvette (French). I called them Mikey and Y-ve (Eee-Vee) as teasing, loving family names. My dad had to of course mess up my name and named me Shawnn with 2 n's. I had a **** of a time arguing with teachers in grade school that used to try to correct me in spelling my name to 1 n.
So yeah, if I have any children I'm not going to make this mistake. They're going to have solid American names they can be proud of... like Whopper and McShamrock Shake... *heh* I guess I'll never have to worry about it since I'll never find a companion anyways... :P
