Custom materials - what to use?

So, as a first time customizer, I am wondering what basic supplies I'll need. I've got some wool and some nylon hair, some wire and pliers; but what kind of paint do I need to use? Sealant? What size brushes? Is there some kind of special pen I can use for really fine lines such as the eyes? Do any of you fellow Canadians know where I can get some RIT dye, or it's equivalent?

Also, I am having a hard time finding a fix to pony cancer... do I just paint over it after a good cleaning?

Any help is MUCH appreciated! Thanks!

Start off with design concepts. Have an idea of what you want to make, maybe a sketch on paper or some pictures of characters you'd want to pony-fy or symbols to reproduce.

Here's some links to get you started!

Questions from a beginner customizer

For brushes, I have a variety. Michael's crafts sells a multi pack of 25 brushes for $5 that are a good starter kit for beginner customizers. Also you'll want to get yourself at least one sponge brush if you're attempting FBRs (full body repaints) and one teeny tiny brush for doing eyelashes.

I use Golden brand sealant, in matte. I also have gloss but I only use it on areas that I want to be shiny.

I use acrylic paint (any brand but I go for Delta Ceramcoat if they have it) and Matte Mod Podge for a sealer. I use white taklon brushes of many sizes. Until recently I used a brush for full body repaints and managed to get them rather smooth. I now have an airbrush. I use a small brush for eyes. Its takes a little practice but you get the hang of it.
DollyHair.com and RestoreDoll.com are the main hair suppliers but you can use whatever you like. I've even used mohair on a few.

Just get a pony you're not afraid of messing up and use her as a test pony to try stuff out on.

For small details rather than use a thin brush I sharpen a pencil and dip the tip in the paint and slowly do the eyes and symbol. Doing it that way I dont have to worry about the brush slipping or stray hairs on the brush messing it up. I use basic acryllic paints, mostly apple barrel and folkart.
