If you are running an event, adding that to the boards calendar will also enable members to receive "event reminders" prior to the date via messages through the board.

Your event is also advertised at the bottom of the forum list when it comes up to that day in the calendar.
Far as your Event goes, We dont mind if you firstly post your event in discussion, That will give your event the Maximum exposure.
Once your event post moves off the first page of discussion, we will then move it along to its permanent home here in the Events area....
