Oven issues! Melted plastic smell!

Ok I really want to use my oven but I can't get the smell of melting plastic out of it. I have had it on the hottest it can get to get rid of the smell but it won't go away. Last week my husband turned on the oven and forgot to look in it and of course a few minutes later he smelled something and it was my veggie tray. I keep it in the oven all the time and he knows it. He had always checked the oven before turning it on but for once he forgot to and it it all melted onto a cookie tray but dripped onto the racks and other parts of the oven.
I hate the smell and I don't want to bake anything in there until the smell is gone.
What can I do? I don't see any plastic left but there has to be some somewhere in it for it to still smell.
Help me!
Thanks a bunch!

I had plastic smell in my over also. I just had to let it burn off before it would go away. I wish I could be more helpful.

Erm.... baking soda on half a lemon left in it overnight? A bag of coffee left in it overnight? both absorb smells, but I don't know if it'd work on plastic.

Also try using Easy-Off the oven cleaner. BE CAREFUL WITH IT. It's mostly Lye and it WILL burn your skin if you over expose yourself to it.

I know because my stupid in-laws painted the stove here at my father-in-law's house to cover up "rust" only they did it with LATEX paint.

We scrubbed the whole thing down and guess what the "rust" was

JUST GREASE! They painted over GREASE because they were too lazy to clean the stove.
It took my mother, my sister, my husband, and me two days to get it clean... I wound up with chemical burns from the lye

!?!?!?!
Sorry, tangent there. But I really do think oven cleaner mught help you -hugs-
Hope it goes away soon and you find a new veggie tray!
