Only the White House can stop traffic on the freeway
Brigham Young University invited VP Dick Cheney to speak at graduation, and he accepted. So he flew into Utah today to stop in Salt Lake City first to have dinner with LDS Church leaders before going down to Provo. We needed to get downtown for a business trade show we were going to, only to sit parked on the freeway for 10-15 minutes waiting for the VP's motorcade to have free access all the way to the city from the airport. Why can't they put up with traffic like the rest of us do?

Ah, traffic. My four wheeled coffee break. Also a good time to fix/put on makeup, brush hair, check phone messages, and enjoy a quick nap
(reserved for drawbridges, BIG accidents or presidential motorcades)
Five things to do while stuck in traffic:
1.Play the exciting game "Does My Head Fit In The Glove Compartment?"
2. Roll down window, ask person next to you, "Is this the line for spiderman 3?"
3. Honk your horn -- that always helps to get things moving
4. Call police, report stolen car, give license plate of car in front of you
5. Imagine you're in line of cars waiting to run over Cheney, Donald Trump, the Queen'a England or whoever's causing the **** gridlock!

Sorry, he spoke tonight.
But then they showed on the news that about 100+ students didn't want to support Cheney at their commencement and managed to dig up Ralph Nader as a keynote speaker at a different site. * blinks * Why Nader?

yeah, I remember some of my friends still at BYU were telling me about how they were protesting him speaking. I thought it was silly. Sure, most of BYU is wildly conservative republican, but I'd still consider it an honor to have him speak at graduation. Or more likely, I just wouldn't care.

Ugg, if Cheney invited himself to my commencement, (which is what he did), I'd boycott too.

(4th paragraph from bottom)
His office requested he be invited to speak at BYU because it's a conservative school in a conservative state. Didn't his mother ever tell him it's rude to invite yourself to someone else's party? :P
Back on topic though, I guess that's one good thing about living in the rural south. Our idea of a traffic jam is two pickups parked in the road so the drivers can chat. Everyone else just goes around, (seriously).

Clinton was in Las Vegas when my husband and I were a long time ago...the traffic on the strip was stopped for an hour. It was so bad people were getting out of their cars to go into the casinos to go to the bathroom. Clinton was having lunch at the hotel Paris, so they stopped traffic the whole time.
We were just walking around so we had a good laugh at the gridlock.

Bush arrived by helicopter at the Hyatt in Cambridge, MD last year. They still shut the roads down nearby even though the Hyatt is set back very far from them and he didn't arrive by motorcade. :?
