A Loss in the Family

My dog died tonight.

His name is Maxx. He was 12 years old. He was an old man. A grumpy old man.
But he was the best dog I've ever known.
We're not really sure what caused it.. but he was acting weird all week. And tonight after dinner he started panting really hard, for several hours. Drooling a lot too. He wasn't responsive to anyone. I knew something was wrong, and I had a bad feeling.
I keep coming back every hour or so to check on him. My Dad was the one who found him. He didn't cry, yelp, or say anything. So I hope he went peacefully.
I completely lost it. I've been crying for the past 2 hours.
My parents just took him over to be cremated. We will keep his ashes and get an urn for him. I clipped some of his fur, to put in a locket. ...may sound creepy to some but... I grew up with him. He was such a good dog. He was a member of the family.

Goodbye my friend. I will miss you. I will never forget you. I love you.

Oh my!I am sooo sorry that he passed away,Julie!*hugs*I would totally be the same way if my cat died because I grew up with my cat too,so I don't think it is creepy that you kept some of his fur to put in a locket. I am sorry for your loss and I hope that he went peacefully and did not suffer any pain.

I think all pets are like a member of the family,so it is always hard when you lose them.I hope you will be ok and I send you my best wishes.*hugs again*

I am so, so sorry for your loss. Losing a friend like that is always hard. Only time will heal things.

I am sure he was happy with you and enjoyed his life. He was a satisfied doggy when his time came.

So sorry for your loss. I know how you feel - I said goodbye to my 13-year-old boy with whom I grew up last week, the day before my birthday. I chose to bury Pharaoh in my parents' backyard, next to our other dog who passed in 2004, but I have kept his collar and will always have the pictures.

There is a company that makes very tasteful glass memorials using a portion of your pet's ashes. I can't find the link to their site, though. Maybe someone else can help me out.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a four legged member of the family is always hard. I have an urn that contains the ashes of one of my pet rats. It brings me great peace to know that Munchie is still with me. I think you will feel that same comfort. *big hugs*

Thank you everyone for your kind words!
It means a lot

Whats going to be harder for me, is telling my friends. They grew up with him too!
He was always with us when we were playing video games, or watching a movie.
All my friends loved Maxx, probably as much as I do.

His ashes will be put into an urn, with his name engraved on it.
A company called 'Little Paws' I believe, takes care of everything.
And I found a lovely silver locket, with paw prints on it, to keep some ashes or his fur in.

Again, thank you everyone for sending your love.
