Exclamation Not happy about e-bay's changes? *Please Read*

As some of you may know, e-bay is making some changes coming this October. For all the details I reccomend checking out cobralily's post about it in "Trader Help."

Ebay changes rant

To sum it up, basically people will not be aloud to use Money Orders, personal checks, or concealed cash as forms of payment anymore. Which in turn will force people to use PayPal (meaning you have to pay MORE fee's), ProPay or "Payment upon delivary."

Not only is e-bay doing that but they also are going to be putting certain restrictions on how much a seller can charge for shipping. AND a seller is going to have to maintain a certain DSR number, or they will no longer be aloud to list auctions.

BUT, there is a possible light at the end of the tunnel here. In Australia, there was such an uproar about these changes (specifically the accepted forms of payment) that people did their research and brought the problem to the attention of the Government Department for Fair Trading. They were able to prove that e-bay was breaking "Competition Laws." Here's the link with all the details (link was provided by Natsu Chan.)

ACCC proposes to revoke immunity for eBay's PayPal only policy

So, what we here in the U.S. can do if we hope to make our voices heard, is go to our "Fair Trading Department" and submit letters of how e-bay is breaking or infringing on the countries laws by limiting payment methods. This is something that will require some research of the countries laws when it comes to this stuff.

You can also check out threads in e-bay's discussion forums that are designated to this very problem. (These links also provided by Natsu Chan.)

eBay Forums: The REAL reason behind the paypal only ...

eBay Forums: HOW DO WE STOP The UNFAIR Pay Pal and ...

eBay Forums: Recent eBay Changes ...

So those of you who are familiar with what the fair trading laws are in the U.S. please feel free to share your knowledge about something that might help with this

I know there is a lot of people who are un-happy about these changes, so here is a chance to try and so something about it.

**Feel free to move this, I wasn't exactley sure what forum would be best to post it in

Do you know how Ebay going to determine what postage costs you can charge? The postage calculator or what? I bet they won't be taking into account any boxes, bubble wrap etc the seller needs to buy to send the parcel!

I think in Australia they were going to bring in the Paypal rule but it has been put back for a while longer or isn't going to come in now? ATM we need to offer Paypal as an option but MO, deposits and other forms of payment are still acceptable also.

You wonder how many sellers just won't bother with Ebay now . . .

The paypal only rule has been disallowed here by the ACCC which is our department of fair trading. This was done on a few grounds, but it helped that the banks were seriously not happy.

Initially it was put back but Ebay had to bow to pressure eventually. Since the paypal and COD policy clearly breached some of our trade practises laws.

eBay is building a warchest of fee-generated revenue. It has already established working relationships (and no doubt kickbacks) with all the major shipping companies, the USPS included. It is built on a monopoly principle and the Anti-Trust Act may be another way to impose some control.

So eBay sucks. It has for a long time. The new layout they had even sucked a big one. now this.

They're going to lose a lot of sellers, even the big sellers. eBay is almost as big of a devil as WalMart and filled with a whole bunch of money hungry republicans. Not surprising.

Just find another site. No matter how much we all rant eBay doesn't really care about us. If they did a lot of changes wouldn't have happened, or they wouldn't have thought of this. You're voice can't be heard when those people are sitting up that high.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that part

Although e-bay is one big money hungry corporation that doesn't care about its members best interests, the fact of the matter is something can be done if enough people stand up and make their opinions heard. In fact that's exactley what people did in Australia and they were able to get the ban on other forms of payment reversed.

You should always stand up for what you believe in, whether you think people will listen or not.

Well... I believe I've never liked that money sucking site anyway. It's almost as bad as Myspace. Yuck.

Well MySpace is a whole other story and really has nothing to do with e-bay.....

Fact of the matter is, if people don't like whats happening, then they need to do their part and say so. We are e-bays customers, therefore we have every right to try to change new rules we think are wrong or unfair.

Hey Silent, you know some people actually like walmart and some like the websites like myspace, so instead of spitting off about place like that, take a step back and not say anything at all. Also lets keep political views out of this. There are Republicans in here and the MY LITTLE PONY TRADING POST is NOT a place to start a political feud. If you wish to speak about something like this find another site because its uncalled for here.
