I loved that episode of friends where they had the girl named Precious and Pheobe insisted on calling her something like Amanda.

My kids - Ewan and Willow - don't have overly common names but I would never inflict a 'wierd' name on my child. Same with spelling. As someone who has spent have of their life spelling their name (it's Jenni with an I not a Y) I would never spell a name different from the norm. What a curse to spend your life having to spell your name, explain your crazy parents etc. I just don't think parents think these things through. How can you be a real estate agent with a name like Apple? Or a butcher named Rebel?

That said my sons full name is Ewan Elwood Danger. We did take a crazy detour but it's hidden far enough away so it doesn't have to be an issue and he can drop it if he wants to.

OMG Goddess Daine, I laughed so hard reading your post! Coffee table! Anyway, celebrities do get away with naming their kids that most people couldn't. Has anyone seen that show on VH1 (I think) Wackiest Celebrity Baby Names? Robert Rodriguez (the director) named his boys Rocket, Racer, Rebel and Rogue.
Oh and MJ didn't name his son Blanket, that is just a nickname because the poor kid spends so much time with one on his head because of the paparazzi. His real name is Prince Michael Jackson II.

My family had a fit when I named my oldest daughter Amethsyt. They all whined about it not being traditional and hard to spell. I finally agreed to let them call her Amee just to shut them up, lol!

I love unusual and unique names, just not super weird freaky ones. My sister was actually really upset when she heard Gwyneth had named her daughter Apple because that is her nickname that my daughter gave her (and my sister got the nickname first, but of course everyone "thinks" she is copying the celebrity now). My sisters name is Apryl and she really doesn't like it much, she thinks it's horribly boring. When my daughter tried to say Apryl it came out Apple. My sister loves it so much that she actually prefers to be called Apple.

If i had a girl i was going to name her Pandora. To this day my mother is still freaking out even though i had a boy.

My dad thinks Anaya is a weird name.. thats what my friend named her first kid (pronounced A-neigh-ya). We just usually call her 'Naya for short. The same with Breanne, which is her second kid.. he wants to call them Amy and Brenda. I think Breanne is cute.

If I have kids, I want to name the girl Echo, and the boy Jasyn (pronounced like Jason) Echo just because I like the name and I went to school with a girl named Echo and Jasyn because he was the first name I invented for my first story that I wrote.

Needless to say... my parents are like 'don't send them to our house'

well i have family members name Emma Faye, Nina Jewel, Wilda Jane and my friend Joe had an aunt named Gussy..yes that is her real name. I know a little girl who looks like a boy and her name is Hunter. (poor child) I met a woman today named Koco. I've known men named Kelly and Kim, and I had an ex whose middle name was Llewellyn and a friend whose name is Christopher Lynn Flanagan, my dads middle name is Boswell. My sister's name is Nissa and brother's is Davin (thier dad is Finnish and their last name is Suominen hehe half siblings ) Umm....haha i think that is it. yay for weird names

There are also a couple people here named Storm... boys. And I grew up with a girl named Winter and another girl named Byrony and a guy named Nyle. All unique names.
