Plucking, Waxing and other Tortures!

Alright ladies it's time to get a little personal! Time to share the good, the bad, the ugly and most definitely the funny! I know it's a subject that makes most of us go, ewww (not me) but with summer coming up and the recent beauty threads I thought this may be appropriate. Do you have a secret beauty torture you wish to share, or a horror story with something we should never try? Please share!

I personally love threading! It took me a while to track down a shop that did it but man, what a difference it makes. I only do my eyebrows but I get lots of complements on them, even from strangers (which is kinda weird, "Hey miss, you have really nice eyebrows" LOL) I used to pluck when I was a teen and then started to wax once I got tired of plucking all the time. The waxing was ok, but the hot wax would make my skin red and puffy for a day or two and always there would be a stray hair here and there I'd have to go back and pluck anyway.

Well with threading, my girl doesn't miss a single hair. I have beautiful, high arches and the brow lines just seem so much cleaner and neater. I can't explain it, but it really does come out looking much better. Even my friends whom I've converted agree, the threading looks better than waxing, plus no red, puffy skin! Also, they can thread just about anything, upper lip, arms, whatever. It does hurt somewhat, I think it hurts just as much as waxing, only instead of hurting for a second it hurts for as long as it takes the lady to do it (about 5 minutes total). But it's not too bad and you get used to it.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, youtube it, it's very interesting.

I'm really thinking about having my armpits done for summer but I'm conflicted. See I'm really self-conscious about my armpits because I have very visible scars from where they had to biopsy my lymph nodes several years ago and it makes me feel funny about wearing sleeveless tops/dresses. But I love sleeveless in the summertime! Plus mine, and I think most other people's skin under their arms is kinda darker than the rest of the skin around it. I've read that this is somewhat caused by the dark hair that's always just under the skin and that waxing will help lighten the area. Plus you wouldn't have to shave so often. I'm interested but very nervous about trying this. Firstly I think it's gonna hurt like crazy! Then since it does seem so painful I'm torn between waxing which will probably make my skin breakout but only hurt for a second and threading, which I know will be better for my skin but hurt for several minutes. You guys will laugh, but to prepare myself for my upcoming underarm venture when I got out of the shower a few days ago I did pluck a few armpit hairs just to see if I'd pass out. It wasn't too bad but then again, that was only like 2-3 hairs LOL! Anyone here have any armpit opinions or experiences?

OK, your turn to share.....

I actually love getting waxed.
My first time getting my armpits done went very well. Two quick pulls and they were finished.
I have a slight problem with excess perspiration, and this seemed to help for a bit. Not to mention it's nice not having to worry about shaving every day!
Try it once and see how you feel. Your skin will be a bit red afterwards but it heals quickly. And you usually get some lotion afterwards too, to help with any redness or soreness.

It's not for everyone. Like I get brazilian waxes....
But then again I'm pretty tolerant of that kind of pain.

I've seen some of your costumes and I'm not surprised! LOL! You can't fight crime with a little bit of peek-a-boo hair working it's way outside your hero suit *giggle* I don't know if I could handle that but I might would try just having my bikini area done...hmmm, I wonder if that's any more painful than underarms?

I wax my brows at the salon, get regular brazilians at the salon, and wax my own lip at home. So worth it, brazilians I mean. You're smooth for like 2-3 weeks. And you feel so clean. Waxing your lip at home is simple, I get the wax strips at the local drug store. I love having perfect brows, it's really nice.

I cannot STAND plucking. I am such a chicken about pain! But I'll get my eyebrows waxed without issue (although I never have time anymore!), which seems sort of ridiculous, because waxing can be just as much torture.

I shave, only because I will NEVER EVER get a brazillian wax. I've seen enough videos of women getting it done to scare me!!!

As a guy I shouldn't have much input here but I have had my eyebrows waxed once or twice. Man was that painful. I commend you ladies for going through that kind of pain.
