When collecting costs an arm and a leg...

So, just out of curiosity, since this happens all the time in any collecting circle known to man that requires, you know, money, and I'm pretty sure quite a few of the most experienced people around here have gone through it at one point or another...

What do you guys do when you find something you really, really, want, but is really, really expensive, and you just can't afford it at the moment (or sometimes, at all)? Mope, give up, start saving in hopes of eventually having enough funds for the item?

Myself, I usually end up putting it off indefinitely and finally giving up all together, then get irritated/sad when I go back to check on the item I wanted and *poof*! It's gone. Sigh.

How about you?

Ooh boy, do I know the feeling. My MH collection is at a grand total of two because of this reason. I really really want to get a Wave 1 Lagoona, but everywhere I look she's $30+. Even the more recent MH dolls are priced insanely :( It's rather enraging and depressing at the same time. Thankfully I have my pony collection to keep me distracted lol

When I'm low on cash I do trades. If it's something I can't trade for, I just save up. Everything comes around again.

I just wait or sell if I can sell other things I have that I've accumulated to make money to get what I want.

I'm willing to liquidate things if I'm really in need.
I like to keep a stash of funds so I don't run into that issue but things happen.

I agree with those who said to wait. If you keep your eyes peeled and start saving your pennies you may just find it again and possibly at a better price. Be a smart shopper and you can make your dollars go further. Unless what you're looking for is a one of a kind item, chances are another will come back around again and possibly at a better price.

I'll save up. No collection is worth going into debt for. When I kept losing the ponies I wanted a few years back (prices went crazy) I took a break.

Well when there is something I want I bide my time and wait because if it's something new the prices go up for demand. Don't buy it on impulse because that's when you over spend. Someone is always selling at some point. I don't browse ebay unless I have the money to spend that day. I don't bid a couple days before I have the money. I have a price in mind in which I'm willing to drop for it and if it goes $10 over that I stop and let it be.

I've been in way of saving probably $20 or so in my account, then only will I allow myself to take a peep around for ponies.

I know about saving being that I'm stuck into high shipping fees to The Land Down Under D:
