That's an AWESOME statement, Bahahaha! So true!
Even more truthful is what you describe, the total sense of joy and excitement when recieving a new ponies - Takes you right down Memory Lane doesn't it?
I think that's how most people start to collect, I'm no exception; I was being horribly stressed out, sick, fighting depression in my late teens when I randomly found my old Rollerskating Melody and was amazed that she stll had her little discman clinging to her.
That was just love - I sat down and watched the old movie and just wallowed and got comforted by all the loving memories of my pony playing.
Attempting to find my very fist pony, a dingy Italy Applejack, and realizing my mom had given her away or tossed her out, I went online to look for more ponies/a replacement, as AJ is my all-time favorite.
I became even more amazed with the fact people were uniting and collecting via the (old) MLPTP from all over the world, and it didn't take long before I joined in myself and here I am today, some 9+ years later :P
On a sidenote, Applejack and I were reunited a year later-ish after I joined the TP, when my niece recovered him and gave him back to me on my Birthday

Now that was one of the most beautiful moments in my life, my faithful companion returning to me, so I can totally relate to what you say about meeting old friends again.
Lastly, before this post gets too long, that's so wonderful your kids are fascinated by the old ponies and not just modern toys/ponies! But yes, hehe, keep the mint ones to yourself

Good luck in your collecting and welcome to the Trading Post!
