I also work at Wal-Mart and have for nearly three years. Currently, I'm an overnight cashier/stocker/back-up CSM. There's not much in a store that I *don't* know how to do or where to find. And I can honestly say that I would never, ever, ever treat a customer the way that Target sometimes treats their "guests." When I am answering a call, I am as helpful as I can possibly be. I never get nasty with a customer and always wait until they are finished talking to reply. I am not stupid just because I work at Wal-Mart. Never assume that because it will come back to bite you in the ass every time.
I know what it's like to be on both sides of the register and both ends of the phone, so I try to sympathize with the employees, too. Although, in my case with the Target associate that I spoke with on the phone, there was no excuse for his attitude because he wouldn't even let me finish my question before assuming that he knew the answer. I wasn't asking him to hold any items for me. I was asking if the items were in stock and to be connected with someone who knew or could find out if he didn't.

true, but not all targets consider ponies collector's items (for some reason).

I think it's so totally awesome when people come on here and insult employees at one store or another, or a store/retail chain as a whole in general, because of some bad experiences.
I believe *everybody* has had bad experiences at EVERY store.
So - and I mean this in the most polite way and not directed at anyone in particular, nor at this thread in particular because I see it often - can everybody please shut up with the bashing of stores & store employees? I think people tend to forget that there are folks on this board who work at Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Toys R Us, and more - and when you come in here and start snarking about how "$retail-chain is full of *%*&*(#%# employees!!" and "THEY ARE ALWAYS SO RUDE, $store would NEVER treat you the way $store does!!" you are personally insulting other members.

well, i don't blame them for being ignorant... i certainly wouldn't expect a minimum-wage employee to know everything there is to know about every item in the store. but that was a case of just not listening, and that DOES bug me.

 Totally true.
Honestly, I wouldn't bother calling stores to search for ponies. You get better results just going to the store yourself and looking. Most employees don't know a Penny Candy from a piece of candy.

I apologize to everyone about my comments. I didn't mean to insult anyone. I'm just mad because I've had bad things happen to me at Target (rudeness; being criticized for ponies, etc). But not all Targets are that way.
I'm sorry. *is down on hands and knees begging for mercy*

Oh man, I'm so horrible at directions...I'm not familiar with the area, so I don't know which store it's closer to, just that it's on the north side of the road as Walden runs east/west. And there's a HUGE sign that says "giant flea". It's indoor/outdoor and it only open in summertime. I think I'm about 40 miles from it, so we don't go often. We use the peace bridge, too...although any trips to Canada are maybe once every year or two. I live in a small town called Byron, halfway between Buffalo and Rochester. I wish I wasn't so bad at directions, lol!

I live in IL too, Chicago to be exact. My Target is right up the street, and man are most of the workers there really rude as well. I also collect Strawberry Shortcake so I'm trying to find Frosty Puff and Tea Blossom and MLPs.
Sometimes there will be this nice guy working, who will actually check in the back and sometimes it's this evil woman who just talks to her fellow co-workers all the time loudly about her drama, and when you ask her for help she blows you off.

too true. department store employees are just like employees of any other company - human beings who are limited in their knowledge and abilities. i'm sure if someone came up to me when i worked at target and started asking me about bratz figures, i would appear to be a complete idiot. that's why i don't bother calling ahead anymore unless there's a unique DCPI for the particular ponies i'm looking for - unfortunately, with the baby ponies they all share the same DCPI, so the only way to tell them apart is to ask an employee to go aisle by aisle, checking each peg and each name on each box. that's just not fair.

Yeah...
Um, if I worked at Target and a customer called and asked me to look for a specific pony of the 30 or so that they have at a given time, and even worse was at the checkouts so I'd have to check 20 different places, I wouldn't be overly helpful either.
I mean it's one thing when you're looking for a size 6 red T-shirt with whatever design on it, because the store you're at doesn't have your size. But checking for one thing that could be in two dozen different places? That's asking a lot. It's gonna take that employee 5 or 10 minutes to find just that one thing...for a $2.99 sale?
We get people like that where I work and we have to politely but firmly tell them that if they want it, they'll have to either order it (which takes about 3 minutes but costs more) or come dig through for themselves.

Why don't they just put them in the Pony section. I don't have the time to search through the 25 someodd isles at our super target with a 5 year old and a 15 month old...they just don't have the patience. BLAH! They have been purchased and spotted in my area, but by the time I get there, they are always gone.
