I went as a unicorn one year for halloween. My mother bought a white hoodie and white sweatpants. She used yarn for a mane and tail and made a glittery horn out of a cone from the craft store. She made ears from felt and hot glued them to the hood. Then she painted my face white to match. It turned out really well, and could be modified easily for a pony. Just paint some symbols on the hips of the sweats.

Those handmade costumes are freaking sweet!

I had an idea for a pony costume myself, but a little on the simple side. I thought of getting a pair of sweat pants and sweat shirt that matched and get them whatever body color i wanted. Could always dye white ones. Then make a cutie mark and put on the side of the pants. Find some shoes and gloves to match. Get a couple of wigs for mane and tail. Acessories like horns and wings can be made or found. I spotted a woman last Halloween that was a unicorn and had the whole sweat pants/shirt thing going on with a wig and horn and a modified wig for a tail. She looked really cool.

Im tempted to do the same myself for Halloween.

My daughter wants to be a seapony. She's wanted to be one for the past 3 years, but I can't figure out how to make a costume. I was thinking about making her a pony suit out of a sweat suit this year.

They have patterns for Mermaids (Simplicity or Buttrick) you could modify it and just use the tail part and use the sweat suit as the rest of the pony (use a cheap swim ring as the float). Or get a little Mermaid tail/outfit (lillykids.com has a mermaid costume, but it is $40). Good luck!
