Pinkie Pie looks STUNNING! I adore the new style ponies! I am glad Hasbro changed the eye design again. I love they are wearing eye shadow, it looks nice on them. It's very obvious they are actively competing with Bratz, though.

See, that's precisely what it is about the new moulds that set my teeth on edge. Bratz is *not a good example* for girls, (and why are they still on the shelves? I thought they were disbanded??) and the fact that MLP - which is supposed to be an innocent toy that promotes creativity and imagination is going down the same "we've got to be cutesy and wear make-up and be overly thin to be cool" superficial line makes me kind of ill. They're losing sight of the point of the line. The more kids toys' are made wearing make-up and doing grownup or teenagery things then the more pressure kids are going to feel to be like that...children are growing up fast enough, and I'm extremely disappointed in Hasbro for furthering the trend...

Ponies should be horses. And horses don't wear make-up and have heads bigger than their bodies.

Exactly what she said. Thanks, LJ, for summing it up so clearly.

This is one of the biggest disappointments to me, the way they have excised everything remotely "horsey" about the line. Yes, G1 ponies did have some anthromorphic tendencies, like making cakes, singing songs, and talking, but they were still definitely horses. You look at the old backcard stories and they are GALLOPPING, WHINNEYING, PRANCING.

The whole reason that pony + pastel colors worked to begin with is that girls like horses. (For example, there are multiple "series" books focused around horses, targeted at girls.) Now Hasbro has not only rejected the slightest bit of horsey behavrior ("Ponies aren't ponies, they are six year old giiiirls!" ), but they don't even resemble horses any more.

I think they are going for a "baby doll" look with the grotesquely enlarged heads and the pug dog noses, but the appeal of MLP was while you did have baby ponies who could be "ready for a nap" or put in a wagon, you also had the adults who were ready for adventure and excitement. That was why I loved the line as a little girl. That and the magic/fantasy element.

Whether these ponies sell well or not, I feel badly for little girls, whose choices are limited to a cotton candy world where nothing ever, ever goes wrong and everyone is ZOMG best friends forever (current MLP and Strawberry Shortcake) or a world of "adult" fashion with pouty lips and come-hither eyes (Bratz.) What happened to the in-between stuff? You know--the toylines with characters who are adult in the sense that they're independent and can take on challenges and will fight for what they believe in, not adult in the sense that they obsess about their wardrobe? (The only mainstream girls adventure-based toyline I can think of offhand is Dora the Explorer. I guess maybe Barbie to a certain extent now that she has movies.)

I love these pics. I wasn't overly keen on the revamp of the logo until I saw the boxes as a whole. They have a better feel to the packaging.

Can't wait to see them on the shelves. I'm really psyched for them.

Here's a shot that shows size comparison from the "regular" sized ponies to the newborn cuties and the styling Pinkie Pie, who I detest, but not as much as I detest the interactive Starsong. Eugh!

I think they are even a good alternative to Bratz-oriented girls because of their new design. They look like they can beat the competition.
Actually, hasn't the Bratz line been discontinued? I thought they lost in the battle with Barbie. Bratz dolls banned

Even if the Bratz were still being made, I'd like to think you're right, and that MLP would have higher sales than Bratz.

Someone else said they hate the packaging. Agreed, sista! I do nooooot like it! At all. No color. No rainbow. No nothing. NEVER NEVER. I'm so .... not getting these. :(

they scare me. ponit blank. thee things are so hideous and scarey looking as pony-ponys. maybe saing they were aliens would help. but as ponys? chibis scare me litterally ad these things scare me to death! and the fact that they redesigned the PVs to match them saddens me. i really loved the PVs as they were. the Starsong doll scares me too-it looks like it's half my sister's height O.o and the styling Pinkie looks like a really baaaaaaaaaaad fakie-she has no neck!!

the only good thing they have her eare the NBC. i like that there are going to be more of tem in singles; i can't afford the playsets. but even the diff play sets are good. and that they're doing all the chars in the diff molds. that i like.

everything else=nightmares. they're just seriously ruining this for everyone. i'm very sad that this is all that wil be available to peoples. just means i'll be spending alot more money on the internet after june i guess...

just saddening really

they better not decide to make boys now. ra only knows what they'd look like in this style.
