Exclamation The Spread of Mold G1

I recently got a batch of G1 ponies on eBay and I think a few of the might have mold on them so I was wondering, how close do the ponies have to be for the mold to spread? Do they have to be touching, within a few inches or so, or will it still spread if they are even on the same shelf? I really dont want any of my good ponies to aquire mold because they were to close to a pony with it.

I don't know about how the mold will or will not spread to your healthy ponies, but I would certainly recommend you remove as much of the mold as you can. You can remove their heads (carefully) and run boiling water inside them to help clean it out. I've been doing this with a few moldy G1s that have come to me recently. I've used Oxyclean with the boiling water and it helps a lot. Be careful of twinkle eyes and glitter though. May take those right off.

I was planning on removing the mold, I just need to know how far away I need to keep the moldy ones from the goods ones while they are waiting to be cleaned. I got 30 something new ponies so cleaning all of them will take awhile.

I have been wondering this as well. I just found a Sprinkles who was filled with mold inside, and even though I cleaned most of it out I am wary of putting her onto my pony shelf with the rest of my girls...

Mold spreads through spores that are released in the air. But for mold to grow there needs to be the right conditions present, such as moisture. Keeping ponies dry and out of damp and dark places will help prevent mold from forming. Having a lot of humidity can also add to the threat of mold spreading.

Ok, yeah I live in Texas where it's very dry, so no worries about humidity.

Thumbs up Excellent Question - Thumbs up!

Excellent Question, and Lots of Good Answers ~

I have one Sundae pony who is riddled with Mold.
I keep her wrapped in plastic, in a closet - far from my other ponies.
At least until I know how to fix her up.

Mold is indeed spread through the air, so... I would keep any pony with
mold damage far from your other Ponies.

PS: I'd also wash your hands after touching your moldy pony.
That could possibly spread the mold to your other MLPs.

Loads of good advice here!

I know some collectors keep anything that has any chance of possible spread in sealed bags away from the other ponies in case of spread. But as others have said a really good deep clean and keeping them in the right conditions is all it takes.

I keep mine in my other halfs office, he's in their on his computer all day, it's very dry and very warm and so no chance of damp. Anything I buy is thoroughly cleaned and checked before it joins the rest of the herd. I also got a few of those silica damp reduction bags you can get and put them in the corners well away from the ponies to be thoroughly sure!

I got a batch of pony's from a lady at a garage sale. One was riddled with mold and yet none of the other pony's had any mold issues. Mold can only grow under the right conditions so that's why thankfully the rest of the pony's were okay. Its still super icky dealing with moldy pony's. When I got home I segregated her wouldn't have put her with the others till she was 100% clean.
