Tutorial: How to get photos in your post (PHOTOBUCKET and TP uploading)
Hi folks!
Now, I know there are some of you who aren't quite sure yet how to get photos in your post, or don't have the time to fool around to find out, so here we have a nice tutorial on how to get photos in your post.
You can do this many ways. The most common ways are outlined here.
1. The Photobucket Method(Using the free image hosting site, Photobucket.com)
2. Hosting your photo on the Trading Post (By gallery or attachment.)
~~~~~~~~
First we have the photobucket way.
To get a photobucket account, go here: Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket
Then join to get your free account. You can host hundreds of photos and videos for free. It's easy to use as well!
Then, once you're signed up and logged in, here is how to get your photos into photobucket, which will let you post them here:
First, click on the big, blue "upload" button. It will open up a window which allows you to navigate on your computer to where you have saved the photo you want to upload. You don't have to resize it before you upload, because you can resize within photobucket (see here for that resizing tutorial), but keep in mind it will take longer to upload if you have a lot of very large photos.
Then it will upload your photos for you.
Then it will let you name your photo, provide a description, or tags. This will make it easier for you to find the photo if you have lots, and in turn, if your account is public, others will be able to search for your photos. At any rate, you can also skip this step, by just leaving the fields blank, which is what I normally do. Then, when you're done with the naming, or the skipping, just click on "return to album."
It will then take you back to your album, where you are going to grab a link so you can get your picture to show up here on the TP! Just put your mouse pointer over the picture you want to post. It will pop up with a little window below the picture with different links. Highlight the one that says "IMG code" and copy that link. Then paste that into the post. It will automatically be in the right format, so when you hit "submit reply" it'll show up as a picture!
And it should show up like this when you hit "submit"
There you have it, easy as pie! But if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the Testing forum, or PM a moderator.
Now, to show you how to use the Trading Post to upload your photos and get them to show up in your posts. There are two different choices for this.
1. Member Galleries. You can have your own gallery here, and upload to those, then copy and paste the link to your posts. Your picture will show up in your posts from that if you put [img][/img] around the link.
Go here for the tutorial on how to use the Member Galleries.
or
2. Attach file option right in the post. If you click "reply" or "new thread" you will see a box where you type your reply. You should also see a little paperclip button. When you click on that, it'll open up a little box with some options. You want to choose "browse" to go to where your photo is stored on your computer.
Before you click "upload" you should make sure your photo or whatever type of attachment you are adding (can be a word document, text document, etc.) is the right size. If it's too big, it might not upload. It gives you a handy menu that tells you the maximum file size, so use that.
Once you click upload, it'll be attached to your post. You can now click the X to close the attachment window that popped up. (Scroll to the bottom of this post to see a section called "Attached Thumbnails" and you will see the photo that I attached. This is what your attached pictures or other files will look like. You can then click on them to enlarge the photo or to download or open the file.)
