I went back to my Goodwill today after an unsuccessful trip last week. Look what I found! (click on picture for more shots)

She's perfect. Hair is intact and cutie mark only has a little scuff on it. She is DIRTY and ratty with all sorts of scuffs and things for me to remove.

...but I don't know who she is! She's big - a Styling pony, perhaps? - and her head turns. Is all of that pink stuff normal, though? I personally think that it is pretty ugly - and uneven - and it looks like I can scratch it off with my fingernail.

She's already brushed out and I'm going to give her a bath right now.

So excited!

Update: Fixer-Upper 1 is resting peacefully after a much-needed bath. As soon as warm water touched her the dark pink went away and she was left a very light pink. When I turned up the heat she got lighter still, so I'm assuming that she must've had some heat-sensitive feature at one point. She hasn't gotten any darker in the past few minutes, though.

I'm blanking out on her name at the moment but she's a color changing pony. She's white or pink depending on the temperature. Unfortunately a lot of these got stuck with blotchy color all over them. I don't know how to fix it. Maybe soak in hot or cold water? If you figure it out, let me know and I'll add it to my website.

I found the same info as the above poster! Star Catcher, and she is a Decorating Pony (scroll to the bottom).

She's starting to cool down now and she is slowly turning pink again. Bummer that the color-changers wound up with blotchy colors. What do you guys think I should do with her? Try to get rid of the pink or keep this feature in tact? I'm planning on selling her once she is fixed up.

ETA: You can still buy her new on Amazon. XD

How much? Am I looking at one bottle or ten?

Does the acetone harm the cutie mark?

I don't know how much it'll take all up but yes it will definitely remove her cutie mark as well so you'll have to be very careful around it.

Thanks to all of the great advice I've gotten I started cleaning her up tonight.

Here she is after I worked the first little bit off. The acetone made the paint turn dark pink as soon as it touched it, which made it very easy to see where I still needed to scrub. After this picture I went downstairs to the washtub and started using a toothbrush rather than a paper towel.

Here she is now. I got her two front legs, her neck, and most of the area by her mane. I didn't want to go any farther on her face without Q-Tips handy; I'm so scared of messing up her eyes!

Oddly, my styling Starcatcher only changes body color - her head is solid white and never goes pink. o_O I bought her from the store like that years ago, and all the ponies on the shelves were like that.

Weird. Mine seems to be the opposite - her butt doesn't seem to want to change color!

...so there was a change in plans tonight.

I was trying to get around all of her little beauty marks (and failing miserably) and realized that I was more than likely going to have to repaint everything.

...so I scrubbed her clean. No paint. Gone is the nasty color-changing layer; gone are the swirls and hearts and cutie mark.

Her eyes are gone, too. It's creepy.

Now that she's stripped (save some last remnants of paint in a nook or two) I need to decide what to do with her. Honestly, I was anticipating a restore - not a custom.

Was this a case of inexperience? She's my first.

I somehow feel like I've left the MLP community down by destroying original work. :(

Well, you could always find pics of her eyes and markings here and just repaint them on. That would still count as a restoration I believe. If not, I bet you could sell or trade her for someone who would love to customize a styling pony.

Don't feel like you let the community down. It's a mistake (or maybe not depending on what becomes of her), and we all make them. Perhaps if you ever try again with another one, you could try using painters tape over the eyes and symbols so they are protected when you scrub. I would love to see you nekkid stying pony. :)
