I came across this on Taobao last night:

Whaaaat, was this Pinkie's teenage goth stage? (In all seriousness, is it a special edition thing or something? And is it worth spending $30 on? Please enable me to buy it. >> )

She is pretty cool. I have heard she is a Fashion style size....so yeah $30 if she is FS sized, should be about right!

Current speculation is she MAY be the Fair or SDCC exclusive but of course that's just speculation.
 
She doesn't seem to be "special" enough to be Fair/SDCC exclusive (considering the pones they've had in years past).

She looks a lot like this, also seen on Taobao a bit ago.

So perhaps there's a set of both coming out at some point?

But this is the first time the pony media has seen this, that's for sure.
 
I agree, she doesn't seem special enough for either, but last year's pony was extremely plain compared to previous years too. I can't think of any other event she'd be released for (simply because those two are all we've ever really had, aside from art ponies and the Pony Project), but for $50 for the Fair exclusive she'd better not be the Fair pony. Maybe the special gift for the Hall of Fame dinner?

Yeah, she's too cute to be goth in that photo. If anything it strikes me as more of a "black tie" Pinkie (if that could even be possible).

Perhaps it's for some upcoming formal anniversary or celebration?

Agreed. I really hope this is not the Fair exclusive. I was hoping for something that was a little more unique than an already existing pony. And I was REALLY hoping for a g1 inspired pony although I highly doubt that's gonna happen in the near future.
 
I agree not special enough to be a comic con exclusive, I would be very disappointed. Also guys Derpy isn't just a bland pony she is a fan favorite and awesome! Yes she might not be some interesting looking random Swirly pony, but that is not probably going to happen anymore, it wouldn't sell as well because I'm pretty sure the majority of the fans would prefer a character from the show. I think it would be sick though to see some G1 ponies in G4 style that are official! Anyways about this Pinkie Pie I do NOT think this is a mistake I think this version must be in a future episode, perhaps a Punkie Pie, or some type of spell perhaps, who knows.
 
I am gonna be a total downer and I really suspect she is the fair pony... man, I hope not, but isn't it right around May when ditzy made her prototype review?? I mean I know that she is iconic for the whole hasbro marketing of MLP, but meh - I would be so disappointed to know that is the thanks I get as a convention-goer = even if it had waaaaay waay cool box art (which I am betting it will... but still)

goth pinkie is cool if you buy a bunch of other taobao otherwise shipping costs for one pony and fees are killer

I'm attempting to add her to my current unprocessed order--Taobaonow's out of the office til tomorrow, so wish me luck! I'm a sort of goth kid who loves Pinkie, so it's perfect for me. ^^ But I'm still a baby fan, so I'll defer to others on the SDCC bit.
 
I think she stands a good chance of being the SDCC pony given the timing.

Maybe she would be "special" enough if she came with some awesome accessories- like a top hat and tails?

Or maybe she might come with that little glittery one that looks so much like her (although they don't really match enough- so I think that's a long shot)
 
If she were the Fair and/or the SDCC pony, we should be seeing TONS of her up on Taobao. So we'll have to wait and see on that one.

Also SoSilver already has her and posted a picture on his tumblr (probably his Flickr, too).
