EDIT: Finished! See the post
I have finally gotten around to starting the second HQG1C blank that I got for Christmas. I hadn’t had any ideas for a good while or motivation but here we are, I’m finally doing it.
One night a few months or so ago I tried gathering ideas for my next pony but I didn’t get very far but the name that came to me stuck - Wishaway! Also I have a few different purple shades of hair to use that I should really use. Using a base is from The Big Ol’ Custom Blank Base Collection by @Twinkle-eye I have a rough plan. This was in the event I can’t dye the pony (wasn’t sure on a base colour), I came up with this:
The speckles are because this pony is not exactly a perfect blank base. She has so many black speckles, smudges and yellow stains over her. The speckles are ingrained in the plastic so it is a method to cover them up.
Not the best first photo of the whole body but the worst of it is on the face:
Whilst out shopping a while back after the design I came across some dye. I was standing for a long, long time at the dyes wondering if I should go with what I found. A couple of years ago I could have sworn Rit Dye was there but it wasn’t, instead this stuff is. I tried to do some searching on the spot to find if it works as well as Rit does on things like this but I couldn’t find a good answer. I had no idea at all if I would be back at this shop anytime soon or if this stuff would still be here so I went for it and got it. I just wanted to tint the body enough to hide the smears and hopefully speckles…
I followed instructions and it didn’t work, used the last of it also like Rit too but it still didn’t work. But hey, now we know Dylon does not work on ponies. For me, anyway.
But, all was not a waste of time. I saw some amazing colour patterns from the pigment and this reminded me of how I planned to cover the speckles!
I kept this tissue as a reference for when I finally do that pony and that time is now!
This is how this pony is looking currently.
The ears are done using the same smudging technique as when I did Tundra and also I’m smudging a bit of colour on the grey/black smears too so it is not a horrid smear. The dots are done using a pin and because of my poscas, they are very smooth!
I have also at the same time prepped my third and final Christmas HQG1C pony for a future custom. I have a slight idea for her… but this isn’t about her, this is about Wishaway.
Hopefully starting this thread at this point will help push me to finish Wishaway. Now I’ve finally started her and put paint to pony, I cannot stop now!
BONUS: Dark hippo pony emerges from dark waters…
