Hi all. I found this pony at the thrift store last week and was determined to find a way to correct her eyelashes. This is my tutorial on what I did to re-curl the G1 Royal Princess Pony eyelashes.

These are her before pics:

I used a round nose pliers, heated with hot water. See below for details. I suppose there are other ways to heat the pliers, but I liked the idea of using very low boiling point water as a safe measure to prevent melting. If you try it and choose a different heating method, please share!

Supplies:
-Pot with Fitted Colander Style Steam Basket – or even a metal colander?
-Boar Hair Brush or Thick Bristled Brush
-Tiny Precision Scissors (optional)
-Round Nose Pliers – 2 if you got them – found in most jewelry plier kits
-Paper Towels
-Magic Eraser
-Access to cold water

Step 1: Fill pot to about an inch above the bottom of the steam basket. Remove steam basket and bring water just barely to a boil with very few bubbles rising to surface.

Step 2: Dip Royal Princess pony’s eyelashes in the water and hold for 5 seconds. Remove pony and brush lashes straight with boar hair brush. Repeat as necessary.

Step 3: This is optional, but I took a pair of small precision scissors from my sewing kit and carefully trimmed any stretched/pulled out of whack lashes back into proportion with the rest of the lashes.

Step 4: While maintaining a barely boiling pot, add the steam basket back into the pot and stand round nose pliers upright in the holes of the basket. This will keep the handles from resting on the rim of the pot and melting. It will also keep the handles cool while working with them.

Step 5: Wrap paper towel around pony’s eyebrow up to the lash line. My pliers were rusty and oxidized, leaving marks on the pony. This helped prevent marks behind the lashes and then I used the magic eraser for any others.

Step 6: Take one hot plier from the steam basket, while the other remains hot in the basket, and gently grasp and curl eyelash to desired curl, then quickly run under cool water to set the curl while still in plier’s grasp. Continue to alternate between pliers, placing them each back in the steam basket, until you have your desired curl.

Step 7: Periodically comb lashes as needed during above process. At the end I kind of “fluffed” the lashes gently with my boar hair brush.

Step 8: Admire your pony, style her hair, and admire her again. Oh – and be prepared if one side is different. The eyelashes on the display side were inserted and gathered a little differently than the non-display side. I couldn’t get them to mirror each other exactly because they weren’t the same to begin with.

Ohh, that looks much better! I want to do mine now, thanks for sharing!!
