Hello TP Friends,

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden loss of my pony friend of many, many years, Topher aka @heftysmurf76.

The news of his sudden passing has been spreading through social media today, but for the sake of those who do not use any of those sites, I am sharing my remarks here. The details of his passing and of any arrangements have not yet been shared by his family. Please respect their privacy at this time.

Topher and I saw each other almost every year at the MD Pony Meet, at the MLP Fairs, and had some amazingly fun times at group dinners, escape rooms, and toy shows. We talked often and at great length.

Topher, I will remember you as someone who always smiled through the storm, who was warm, kind, loving, and delightful person.

Thank you for all of your support for my projects. Thank you for all the special gifts and messages you gave to my dear late Marzipan from miss Winnie, and for always keeping us in your heart. Thank you for being my friend. <3

@Gingerbread, @Hindsight, and @MintamenaPie, I am sorry to be the one to share this with you. The MDPM Committee has begun making arrangements to honor Topher's long and vibrant history with the MDPM at the meet next month.

Update 3/18/24:

A GoFundMe has been created to help with Topher's arrangements and care for his mother and his dog:

If you are not in a place to financially contribute at this time, please consider sharing this link to make others in the communities he belonged to aware that the GoFundMe is up. <3

Oh no no I’m so sorry. He was so nice. This sucks. :( we both collected Sweetie Pups, too.

Thank you for letting me know, I know most of y’all have settled on different social media than I have over the years.

Love y’all. <3

Oh, no :( my heart is so sad! Even more so since I have to miss the meet this year, I would've liked to have paid my respects. I only met Topher a couple times at past MDPMs but I hate to have such loss in our pony community :break:

I am so sad to learn this. I don't think I knew Topher personally, but he is clearly very beloved and was obviously a very warm and caring person that will be dearly missed. I wish I had known him better because it sounds like he was a truly wonderful friend to have. My deepest sympathies to all his family and friends. It's heartbreaking to know that we have lost such a special person in our community, may he rest in peace. :blueheart:

I just didn't want it to come as a shock later, especially on such a joyful day as meet day. <3

I'll PM you, you are still welcome to contribute if you can't make it this year <3

He was a great friend to many people, and active in many communities online. I find myself already wanting to message him to talk to him about it, if that makes sense. It hasn't really sunk in yet. :(

I understand that feeling well. I lost a close friend at the end of 2021 and one of the hardest things about loss is you realize how part of your life they actually were. Pulling out your phone to text them what they thought of the newest movie trailer the second you see it, taking a picture of a cursed-looking toy you saw at the antique mall because it's just instinct you share it with them immediately, all the little daily stuff you wanna talk to them about and get their two cents on. But you can't. They aren't there. And you just have to keep re-realizing they're gone over and over again.

I'm sorry if that wasn't helpful. I just mean to say that I empathize with that kind of experience you get when you're still processing loss. You guys who knew him best will be in my thoughts.

That's so terribly sad. He and I were never friends, but I always saw him around the forums back in the day. Sorry for the loss of your friend.

His name sounds familiar but regardless if I knew him or not - I’m very sorry to those of you who knew him and I hope that you and his other friends and family find peace during this difficult time. Losing someone dear is never, ever an easy thing. My thoughts are with you guys. :break:

As NovelNerd and ParadiseDreams said, I do recall seeing his name from time to time in the MLP forums I'm on. Sending you--his friends--and his family my sincere condolences. :(

Exactly, that's a very relatable feeling. I already find myself wanting to message him and realizing all over again what's happened. :(

Thank you for the kind words <3

I didn't know him, and only talked to him a few times, but he seemed like a fun, happy-go-lucky guy. RIP and my condolences to his loved ones and friends.

Thanks for letting me know. This saddens me very much, I always looked forward to seeing him each year.
He was one of my first custom swap partner when I first came into the community. I made him a PPG custom! That started our friendship so many years ago.
Dude total suck! :(
*hugs everyone*
