So Hubby and I want to go to Hawaii this summer for our 10yr anniversary. I'm going to go talk with a travel agent next week but wanted to see if anyone here had any suggestions of things we should see or try to do when we go. We've never been there before and who knows when we'd go again so I'd like to do as much as possible and try to get on at least a few of the different islands. I just don't know what to focus on, I want to do it all!

I've been!

Depends on what you want to do. If you are night-life kind of people, you will probably want Maui. If you want to see the volcano national park, you'll want the big island. If you want the "traditional" Hawaii of beaches and sunsets, you want Kauai.

I've been to the big island and Kauai. Honestly, other than the Park, not too impressed with the island of Hawaii- very desolate, flat, and not pretty.

Also depends on what time of year as the tides/winds are different which affects swimming, boating, and surfing!

Give us some more info on what you are thinking and maybe we can help you out with more ideas!

Hubs and I are more relaxing on beaches and exploring nature types. Not so much into night life although we must catch one of those shows with the fire and the dancers and music, I guess that's a luau? I'm going to try to get on a couple of the islands at least. Volcanos and parks and beaches sound wonderful. I don't know if places around there have it but I'd also love to do a shark tank and swim with dolphins. We don't surf and aren't really into boating, but who knows what we'll get into When in Rome , right :winkpony:

Then, I'd pick Kauai if I were you! It's the least tourist-y and would have more room on the beaches plus lots of hiking trails. It's a pretty chill place!

Volcano National Park was cool and I would have liked to spend more time there on the big Island. We didn't know where to go/what to do first time we went so we stayed in a hotel on the complete OPPOSITE side of the island! When we told a local later that we'd driven around the whole island in a day, he was just amazed! Said something like, "I don't think I've ever been in a car that long at once!" LOL! We found it pretty hilarious coming from road trip kind of "mainland" families.

I think you'll probably be able to find luaus on any island but some shows are better than others so you'll want to ask around. Your best bet might be to buy a recent travel guide book. You can find "Secret Beach" on Kauai that virtually no one was on when we went (private beach on Hawaii, anyone?) or places that most tourists don't know about. A book will also kind of help you with how much money you will need. Everything is expensive- even if you have a fridge and buy your own food, it's still expensive- about twice to six times as much depending on what it is.

If you can pick activities before you go, you might be able to find coupons and deals rather than deciding "Hey, let's go do this, today!"
