This looks pretty hysterical -- would love to see other examples of glitter-eating!

How does this happen? Does it happen with g1 as well?
not too sure on the how exactly, but it's likely at least partially down to the conditions the pony is stored in (exposure to UV, humidity, etc), though this example makes me scratch my head a bit with her head being completely normal, but her body is super deteriorated. there's something about the makeup of the glitter in the divine shines that makes it break down like this, so a lot of them are in some state of cloudy. it does not happen to glittery G1s.

I haven’t checked on them in a while since last time I did, they were about the same as here. I don’t know how it happened still since they’re kept out the light and have been in the same box since childhood. Still putting it down to natural deterioration

If i remember right, i had one a long time ago where there was no glitter, its crazy how it goes away lol

oh, lol, I love how the head isnt affected at all XD nice.

Mine look about the same, allover though not just the body. Though this particular one was the one that lasted the longest! The orange one was the first to eat her glitter.

Lol just the head remains I suspect the hair might have offered some protection. In the G3s the glitter dissolves in the plastic with UV and heat speeding the process up. Displaying them in shaded areas or with some protection like a sun umbrella helps. For G3 ponies you can see the path the sun took across them... it is like the opposite of freckles. They lose their tinsel spots with sun exposure :)

This one apparently had glitter when I was a kid. Now she's all orange and no sparkles. Despite a thorough washing also has a really weird texture to it, almost a little like wax covering some parts?

Anyway, figured it'd be a nice addition to the thread

I decided to check my ponies again. Last time I did they were at the same stage as before. Now there is even less

I have continued to store them as I always have, out of light and in the pony box. It’s well away from any heaters too. All my other ponies are fine but these two… luckily, they are not a yucky colour or even sticky

A part of me continues to wonder if I had never cleaned them in the first place, would they have still remained sparkly…

EDIT: upon closer inspection maybe they are actually the same as before

Super interesting! Mine have been in a dark room for the past 20 years so now I'm curious if they changed at all. I have heard that they can get sticky.

i have a flower garland who hasn't ate her glitter yet but she is extremely sticky.

It’s not a good picture of her but I have a MIB one (that I’ll be selling at the meet) and it hasn’t happened to her. I remembered reading a thread like this and I recently checked her and was relieved. She’s been kept in a dark, dry, cool place though for the last 20 years.
