G1 Basic Fun Retro Ponies: A Collector's Guide: CELESTIAL PONIES and 40th Anniversary

With some online stores temporarily halting non-essential purchases, will this effect grabbing BF ponies for a bit?

Hey Guys, I just decided to start collecting again and saw this post. I'm in Canada and didn't even know they were producing the old ponies again. Anyway, all the stores are closed here except grocery stores, but I checked online and I was able to order all of the first set of earth ponies (Blossom, Cotton Candy. etc.) on the Toys R Us website if anyone in Canada still needs those. I checked the Chapters/Indogo website and found a Glory & book set? not sure if it is legit... but no other Basic Fun ponies on there. I am excited to start looking around shops when things open up again. Much cheaper than eBay auctions if I can find them in stores. Anyone if there are any other online stores in Canada that sell them?

Hello and welcome fellow Canadian! What province are you in?

Here in Ontario (Toronto area) we’ve only gotten the collector pose, first wave of Rainbow ponies and the Pretty Parlour play set. Still patiently waiting for the Year 2’s Earth, Unicorn, Pegasus & Rainbow pony collections. :( So sad we don’t get the same stuff.

As far as buying online, I know I’ve seen them on GameStop, Walmart, Amazon & Target online. (Target would probably be a little more risky to purchase from right now. Amazon is probably your best bet for the second wave of ponies but they’re greatly inflated prices.

I'm in New Brunswick! Thanks for the tips! I did check out Amazon, but the prices are crazy! I haven't checked walmart or GameStop, so I'll take a look there! I was thinking of checking Target, but wasn't sure if they still ship to Canada because I haven't bought anything from them online in years. I am curious to check out Marshall's, etc. When the stores open again.

I went to the Lexington Target today to look for any of the new ones. I found Starflower and some of that rainbow collection available. So I drifted over to Meijer and they had Pinwheel. I almost got the two but I already had them and wasn't sure someone needed them, but for fun I found treasure trolls! LOL.

Do you guys think that the repros use Fading Pink hair on the likes of Lickety-split, Bowtie, the 2nd set Rainbows and Posey?

I wish they also did the European versions without Glitter. I would love to have a Gusty again, but as we've never had glitter symbols, to me the "real" Gusty has painted leaves, not glittery ones. :sadpony:

Interesting. I guess the European version of Gusty was essentially the So Soft version (where Hasbro used plain paint because the glitter would be obscured) but sans flocking.

The glitter symbols are still painted, it's just paint with glitter blended in (and I think somewhat metallic, at least in Gusty's case). From a business standpoint, I can understand Basic Fun not doing separate batches with the less-flashy paint for overseas retail; it's added cost and complexity for a minor (especially from a corporate perspective) cosmetic difference.

Hello, hello, sorry awkward first post, and sorry if this has been mentioned before, but in case it hasn't, I just noticed that in amazon uk has a listing for a French edition of Gusty being released in September of this year. I'm aware there are differences between the US/EU variants, so maybe this isn't much help, but I'm quite excited as, if I recall correctly, neither variant ever made it to the UK.

Sorry again if this is old news, and just sorry for the general awkwardness of this first post.
