Hi, I've tried searching the topics to see if this has already been discussed but I didn't find much.

Here's my dilema. I'm a relatively new collector of G1 MLP. I know that there were at least 3 versions of Cotton Candy released in the US - FF, CF (2nd year), and CF (mail order collector ponies). I had a 2nd year Cotton Candy when I was a kid, I found a flat foot Cotton Candy on ebay, so then I started looking for a proper MO Cotton Candy.
I thought I'd got one the other day on ebay, but when she came in the mail she had blue eyes. Dream Valley mentions her existence in a little blurb on the Year 1 page, and I think someone on this board said that purple paint can often fade to blue, but I'm wondering if anyone else knows more.
Now the blue on this pony is not as definitely blue as, say, Peachy's eyes, but then again when compared to my 2nd year CC, they are definitely not purple.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yes I know what you're talking about...I used to have about 6 Cotton Candy's, 5 had purple eyes and 1 had VERY blue eyes, obviously not faded. I still have her...maybe I'll get a pic.

Hi song',
WOW! A blue-eyed FF! I bet that was pretty rare.

Hey Sherbet,
I'm trying to determine this particular pony's origin. Did you buy her originally or second-hand? I wonder if the blue-eyed CC is rare or not.

Anyway, thank you both for your replies. Maybe we can possibly get to the bottom of this :)

My neighbor has a FF Cotton Candy. She has deep purple-blue eyes. I think it's normal for a FF Cotton Candy... :)

My MOC Italian Cotton Candy has super blue eyes. Nothing purple about them :)

my mail order CC Cotton Candy has purple eyes. The blue eyed CC Cotton Candy has blue eyes.

:D
Hiya!
I got your pm, and let me say, for a newer collector you know your early pony stuff.

Yes, your right, sometimes paint can fade. (it usually lightens though. so purple would fade to a lighter purple)

Pictures of her eyes would be great if you can post them. If you need assistance doing so, I'm here to help. :)

Colour variations such as this are normal. and, it's not always due to fading paint.

Each time a new batch of a pony is made, it will be slightly different then the last batch since colours are mixed. colours can be close but not exact each time. (this goes for body colour as well as painted features) let's take a look at a colour wheel.

Blue and purple are pretty close to one another. And, when the "purple" paint was mixed, and not enough *or any* red pigment is added you will end up with blue paint. Which is what you have there. :)

BUT. it would be VERY odd to have a yellow eyed cotton candy (or any pony that should have purple eyes). since yellow and purple are opposites on the colour wheel.

As for value, I don’t think her blue eyes would change it greatly. Since slight/moderate colour variations happen and are considered normal.

Hey, thanks everybody for your input!
Pictures of this Cotton Candy would probably help us a lot :) I'll see if I can borrow a digital camera and put 'em up. But otherwise you all have been really great!

Firefly makes sense, about the batches of paint be mixed diffently each time. Oh well, I still wonder whether she's from year 2 or from a later mail order. :? But she's pretty and she's mine, so I'm happy!

Thanks again, and have a good mardi gras everyone!

I have just checked all my cotton candies. 2 have purple eyes and my FF has eyes that aren't quite blue and not entirely purple. My heavily custom bait CC has very blue eyes though. I don't have a digicam at the moment but I may have a picture of her lurking somewhere in my comp if that would help?
