This is my new OC Flicker Flare! She's a Twinkle Eyed Pony, based on the Twinkle Eyed ponies of G1 but set in the G4 universe. I basically tried to imaging how Twinkle Eyed ponies might be "adapted" or "rebooted" in the FiM universe.
I based the backstory on the semi-canon G1 comic, where Twinkle Eyed ponies were regular ponies enslaved by The Gem Wizard to mine gemstones, and spent so long underground they lost their sight. Applejack rescued them and smashed the wizard's gem throne, and shards of gemstones embedded themselves in the ponies eyes, giving them back their sight.
My adaptation of this is fairly similar- a wicked Unicorn kidnapped and enslaved other ponies to mine gemstones to sell for an ill-gotten profit. He used a dark magical artifact to blind the ponies to light so they would be unable to escape-as soon as they tried to leave the cave, they'd be incapacitated by the brightness. This also allowed them to see well in the dark to mine gems better.
Rarity is the one who discovers this, while searching for gemstones herself, and the Mane Six liberate the enslaved ponies. In the process Applejack smashes the dark artifact, and the magical shards embed themselves into the eyes of the ponies, giving them back their sight.
Flicker Flare specifically is a Pegasus pony who loves making candles, especially scented candles. She finds aromatherapy to be very soothing and effective. After being enslaved she suffers from PTSD and anxiety, but she's getting treatment and help, and finds Ponyville to be a very supportive community to live in.
Her eyesight isn't exactly back to the way it was before-she is still mildly sensitive to light, and doesn't have very good distance vision. She's incredibly grateful to the Mane Six for rescuing her, and eventually develops a friendship with Fluttershy after seeking out a service dog for her anxiety and going to her for help training it.
Credit to brenxdipity on devianart for the base I used for the second, show art syle drawing. I really wanted to do something show-accurate alongside the drawing in my usual art style, and didn't trust myself to draw the body correctly without help.
