Can I Dye my Pony's Hair?

@Tak - I haven’t yet done a so soft pony (my Wind Whistler really needs it). But I do know thanks to @Cactusflower that it absolutely dyes the flocking. I am looking at trying with a bait SS and by covering with cling wrap and tape. Then dying and drying. I’m always paranoid when dying hair of transfer on to the body.

@StormMaeker - Petal pink is a match for the “Fading pink” that was used by Hasbro. I can’t say for sure if it’s a match for your G3 as I am not a G3 collector and haven’t done much of anything with them. BUT petal pink is pretty safe, you can get a beautiful light pink to a very very dark pink. It just depends on how long you submerge the pony’s hair into the dye. My Wind Whistler was literally in for less than 3 seconds.

@IceCrystal - No. Mixing Tangerine isn’t needed if your comfortable with your timing. If I felt I needed a bit more dark, I would do another quick dunk. I plan on making either a photo tutorial or video once I’ve perfected a bit more. ;)
Thanks! I’ll try petal for my Minty when I get round to trying to get my hands on some :satisfied:

I repinked a bunch of ponies this week. But this is a perfect example of how quickly and easy it is to dye pony hair. None of these were in the dye for more than a few seconds.

(These pictures aren’t the greatest, all their names and tails actually match in colour and are slightly lighter than they photographed. I did 2 Steamers which is why there’s two here as well.)
These look awesome! When you dyed Steamer’s hair, did you keep the green stripe out of the dye or submerge the entire mane?

The tangerine adds a bit of that coral tone. Although now that they've got that rose quartz. I wonder if you can order directly from the ritdye store? Or at least an art store?

I uh...I may be guilty of snapping some dye so I can do tie dye. *slinks away from skybreeze*

Your part of the problem... *twitches*

I don’t think the tangerine is really needed, I compared the petal pink with my non-faded pink girls it was a perfect match. But it all depends on the look you want. Some people like others are content as is.

*Puts on groucho glasses and trench coat and leaves some pretty ritdyes at sky's feet*

Yes, I screwed up my Wind Whistler by dying her flocking pink. I was being super careless and impatient. I should have just used a toothbrush to brush in the dye, but I dunked her too close to her fur. Duh. She’s been deflocked and I won’t be a dumb dumb next time.

Rit is what I have used to dye my ponies in the past. It works good, but fyi, you may have to dip her hair (or body) multiple times before you get the right color. The more she is dipped, the darker she will get.

Wow, these photos look great! Thanks for sharing! I will have to do the same to some of my ponies whose hair has lost their "pink"!

When you repink a ss, do you need to keep the dye from touching the flocking? How do you keep the body safe? @Skybreeze ?

I put the pony upside down in a plastic Ziploc and cut small holes for the hair and dip dye. This is easier to do with single colored ponies then multi-striped. Try not to make thr holes too big, or they run the risk of getting some dye on the flocking.
