Hi! Was thinking about this earlier but does anyone know why the second wave of Sea Ponies (i.e. WhiteCap, Sea mist, Sand Dollar, etc) are so expensive and hard to find? :sadpony: (of course two of my fav ponies are second wave Sea Ponies... RIP wallet)
Does it have to do with production run or something else?

My guess is, they're pretty and popular and demand for them eventually went high.

I think that less sea ponies in general survived by avoiding the landfills. So many got mold, rust, and other gunk inside. I think parents were more likely to toss them. The parents I met when my E was 3 would buy big bags of water toys and toss them after a week or two rather than go through the trouble of getting some they could clean. :hmph:

Likely what Tak said. I know my childhood ponies were all given away to younger kids, but I don’t think the Sea Ponies were included because they got scuzzy playing in the bath. The second wave was probably also in stores less long, making them harder to find now.

That makes a lot of sense, I know bath toys are prone to being tossed. Such a shame that presumably loads of Sea Ponies were thrown away because their owners didn't clean them. Makes me wanna take extra good care of mine... when I get them :winkpony:

This also makes sense, can also imagine prices increased since I heard more collectors have emerged recently (like me, haha)

Thanks for your responses everyone!
