I being my hermit self looking at my lovely, insulative, black-out curtains and wondering why I dislike blinds so much. Some blinds can be excellent, especially for letting just enough light in at the right time. What is your preference? Do you like what you have? I'm unhappy with my curtain rods right now in the living room. They're 12' wide windows, so I went with what was available, but hope to get nicer ones someday.

My mother has a 15' front window with three 5' wide blinds. Each slat is bamboo 3" wide. The Windows are old and there so much condensation on them. They are horrible to clean, simply awful.

My apartment came with Blinds so I just kept them, no curtains though. I really only need blinds so I'm okay...

I have two windows in my house with blinds. Ones the papery kind and I have to leave them rolled up to protect them from kitties. The regular blinds have a kitty shape hole where five rows have been broken. Blinds and cats are a no no. Curtains all the way. Plus I’ve never been fond of the look of blinds.

I dislike blinds because they're so hard to clean. Also my mentally challenged cat Diablo likes to destroy them by crawling into them so he can watch the outside cats.

We only have curtains in the bedrooms though. Living in the country no one can see us, and I love to be able to look out and see all the trees and critters. Curtains feel soft and inviting to me. I'm very tactile, so I like fabric and textures.

My cat has destroyed every set of blinds I ever had, so curtains for me. I like the thick blackout curtains too.

Lol. We’re making it sound as if cats don’t wreck havoc on curtains too! My kitchen curtains look pleated from my kitty’s claws.

I love Cats and Cat Owners, more factually the Cats Staff/Caregiver.

Sorry my perspective is on the cats side, not the human. Genuinely sorry if you are offended, so I will try to explain my position further...

My mom's cats don't like the blinds bring down because the blinds block the cats view.
The blinds are like Rows, right to left so not like Columns, not up and down.

The cats only paw (and destoy) the blinds that are blocking their eye level. There are two strings (coming down to hold the rows in place) and the cats only knock off the one small portion on the side of the blinds, not both ends of the blinds and definitely not the portion that is reinforced with strings on both sides.

It is actually just about 1/4, a quarter, of about 4 Rows that is permanently moved out of their way.
Out of the entire Blinds, the cats only destoy like 5% out of 100% so 95% of the blinds are PURRfectly Fine!!!

Very reasonable of the cats...

Especially depending on the Texture Of (Or Decorations On) The Fabric, Curtains may look like a toy particular if moving with the breeze. The Cats may want/need more attention and enjoy playing a game of "Catch The Fabricy Curtain Dancing In The Wind." Or the curtain could be frustrating the cat by obstructing their view.

Unreasonable Humans...
What if someone blocked your Television or Tablet, you'd eliminate the blockage...

Cats need to at least look out the window to their outside world.

I love you all and definitely cats...

Our cats had a flap to get outdoors. We got them during a bubonic plague outbreak and they were excellent hunters. They were sterilized, of course, and we live in the middle of nowhere. My house cats, sterilized, too, never bothered my blinds. I always left them open for them or there was a set of vertical blinds. My cats never clawed anything they weren't supposed, too. I definitely understand animals more than humans.

My dog just puts his head between the curtains so he can sit on his bench and survey the property. He does it with the floor length curtains, too. Here's his little butt sticking out.

Yup sometimes it is easier to understand Animals, especially pets, more so than people.
I was hoping noone would become offended or take what I was saying the wrong way...

How did you survive your Bubonic Plague? That was the Middle Ages right? Wow!!! You've lived a very long life... I'm just teasing you...

Your dog looks cute!

There was an outbreak in southern California and Nevada in 1992 I believe. They kept it pretty quiet. We only knew because my dad worked for the dwp (department of water and power), so he had to go through special hazmat cleanup training.

I have blinds and valances in all the rooms cause I like to be able to let some light in when I want to but in the bedroom I have blinds and blackout curtains. I usually don't draw the curtains all the way cause some sunlight makes it easier for me to get up and motivated but if I'm feeling blah or need to sleep in I'll draw those suckers and won't know what day it is when I wake up LOL they really do keep it dark.

I'm spoiled, I have double curtains in most rooms. The sheers let in all the light and warmth without losing privacy. My house is on an odd lot. I have five neighbors. One side of the front of my house looks on the back and side yard of the house kinda next to, kinda in front of me. On the back of the house and the sides I've got so many nice old plants and a six foot wood fence so no need for sheers.

:lolpony:

Heh, I actually had to rescue one of my cats from the dining room drapes. They were very silky, see through, wispy material that he must have started batting at, only to apparently grab them and twisting. I found him completely wrapped up in the drapes, crying terribly. I took them down immediately, because my Diablo isn't the brightest cat. I'm afraid he would've kept struggling and eventually strangled himself if I hadn't been home. I'd rather have my dingbat cat than drapes anyway! :D
