Chinese-themed custom pony
嬉戲的異想天開 (Playful Whim)
~~~FOR SALE: $135.00 (payments accepted)
Free shipping!
Got some Chinese doll fabric from the store Shibori Dragon for my Bithday one year, and planned a design around the fabric~
Pony base is a giant fakie. (measures 9 in. tall to the top of her bun).
Base coated in Gesso to prep the pony for the acrylics to adhere. Full body repaint in custom-blended acrylics, Eyes painted in my realism style.
All paint work sealed in Artists Varnish.
Mane and tail re-rooted in dollyhair’s nylon mlp hair in the colors arctic frost, haunted forest, forget-me-not, and polypropylene Barbie hair in the colors frivolous and heartless.
Outfit- started with the sleeves. Hand-stitched a neutral blue leaf print with some pale green layered lace for the cuffs. Then stitched the Chinese top from a print of Chinese kids playing outside in a village. Lined the lower panels with neutral green maxi piping. Collar layers are a mustard yellow belt from a shirt dress I used to wear, some roped trim I purchased from Fabric Depot at one point, the same pale green lace repeated on the inner neck collar, then some stretchy light aqua cord tied over top that’s also repeated as the tail bow. Layered a green floral print nylon layer of material under the bottom flap panels of the Chinese top, with wide pale pink lace layered at the bottom. Took a braid of real leather strips and tied it in the middle. My spouse made the braid years ago as a experimental leather craft project, and scrapped the braid and I ended up with it in my custom pony supplies~
Took a thin pale lavender yarn braid I’ve kept over the years from another toy or something, and have been waiting for the right use for it, and I wanted some tassels to be incorporated into this design so I tied the yarn braid around the hair bun. Took some silver faux leafs with white pearls and wrapped it around as well.
Rest of the bead work is from tiny traditional-style Asian beads I also purchased from Shibori Dragon. I laid them all out on my work table, and carefully planned them out/arranged them to be strung on floral wire. Strung them via pliers, and painted Chinese words of good luck on a few of the larger beads.
