Customs As Last Resort For Really Sad G1 Ponies

Hi all. I have a couple of custom G1 for sale and I was wondering if people think I should start posting a before photo along with the customs (in the future...I didn't take any before photos of this little herd) so that people can see I'm not just customizing willy-nilly. (That makes me sad when I see that happen.)
I consider ponies a resource for the future and only consider customizing when all else fails. I have that in my description, as well as that all proceeds from my customs go towards rescuing and rehabilitating other ponies in need. I don't do customs very often either.
I wouldn't want to say I'm doing pony rescue and then have it look like I'm baiting fixable ponies. Maybe I'm worrying too much about what others think of me?
What do people think?
Saving ponies AS THEY ARE is what matters most to me. Sometimes they are beyond saving without a total makeover though. :stir:

It would be interesting, but I don't think that it's completely neccessary. :) It's neat to see, especially for restoration, but I don't think it's as important for customs. People who are going to hate customs on the ground that it's taking a pony, albeit a baity one, out of circulation will do so regardless of who it is.

I generally don't love customs on vintage ponies myself, but if they are covered in "cancer" spots or peemanent marker, then I consider it. I could also send the ponies off in custom outfits or something, but there's no guarantee they wouldn't be customized or resold as bait either way I guess. Originally started my pony rescue to save "bait" ponies by restoring them instead and I still feel that way but sometimes there is no way to resurrect them. If only I had a tiny time machine!

Sounds to me like you shouldn't pay any attention to what others are doing.

You're always going to have a bad time if you do that.

Thanks guys! Yeah maybe not worrying so much is better. I appreciate the advice.

I agree with twishy. There are some collectors who view customization as almost... blasphemous, for lack of a better term, and nothing under the sun will change their view. That's their decision, but they have to realize that there are cases where a pony is beyond restorative repair. If anything, take a photo for your own reference - a sort of log of your customizing (or restoration) progress. :)

Looking forward to seeing your work!

Yeah that's what I do when nothing else can be done. Then I use 100% of any money I get from selling customs in my eBay store to rescue other ponies in need of whatever level of tlc they need to be able to come out of the cardboard box/plastic bin of despair and be part of someone's loved collection again. It's the whole purpose of my pony rescue I rescue them from sadness and they rescue me right back! :flutter2:

So, this may be my “salty” attitude coming out of me lately because I’m so tired of seeing other pony collectors bring each other down (not here but elsewhere). But if you want to customize a pony do it.

It’s your pony to do with her as you wish. Who cares what any other person feels if your doing something you genuinely love? Someone’s opinion should never sway your desire to create what’s in your heart.

but posting before and after photos are always fun, especially when giving a pony new life. ;)

I agree. I as a buyer would enjoy seeing such photos because its interesting. But the thing with customizing is, that it is giving a common pony that anyone can have into something unique, that might end up meaning more to someone.

I haven't really had anyone say anything mean (yet) about my customs but I also just avoid social media like the plague. People seem pretty friendly on here : ) Thanks for the kind comments : )
