Hi!

I'm not one of those who feels confident painting a cutie mark on a pony....but I read on http://www.aikarin.com/mlp/customs/decal.html that you could use water slide decals, which sounds great to me.

I'm wondering if anyone has used this technique and how did work out for you? And also if water slide decals are the same thing as temporary tattoos? (It seems to me that it would be) I'm also curious to know what type of varnish you use to cover the cutie marks. Painted or decals. Would decoupage varnish work? Or does it need to be a non water based varnish?

Ah... I used a decal once, on Biggles Pony. I do not take photographs on the side I tried to put the decal on:unsure: To be fair it was a couple of decades old and the paper had gone all yellowy. (That's my excuse anyway)
If I remember correctly it stuck pretty well, but the problem was it circular in shape and a bit big to all fit on the flattest part of the leg, so it folded in on itself at the edges and tore when I tried to smooth it out. It really needed to be put on a flat or cylindrical surface rather than a vaguely spherical one. You might have more luck depending on the size and shape of the decal. a long but not very wide one might work better, for instance.

It certainly went on the same way as a temporary tattoo, but I don't know if the latter would work on a pony. Mine was stolen from a box of model aeroplane odds and ends. Oh! and note that my pony had undergone a full body repaint, so I don't know how different it would be put on an unpainted pony.

I don't use anything for varnish except for on eyes to make them glossy, which is mostly due to having had a terrible and frustrating time with mod podge in the past, so I can't help you there, sorry.

Good luck on your endeavour and let us know how it pans out

My Rose Sachet pony is done with water decals. I use the ones for ur nails and get sheets super cheap on wish. I find it works well.
