I'm broke so can't buy treats, but my avatar is my sweet little schipperke service dog. His smart little self saved the floors of my closet and bedroom by waking me up at 3am to show me the pipe burst. If I hadn't turned the water off, even an hour longer could have destroyed the floors. He saved so much money and the loss of access to my room it would have entailed. I don't know what I'd do without my sweet boy. He takes good care of us.

I have a 10 month old Shih Tzu, Clover. She is my everything and is my heart dog. I don’t know where I’d be right now without my little monster puppy. Having her has certainly helped me through the loss of Zephyr (my 15 year old pug) and Lola (my 7 week old Cane Corso) in the last two months. No matter how sad I am, Clover always makes me smile. Also her little Shih Tzu kisses are the best.

She loves Three-toed Monty. :lolpony:

@REBELHEART - your dogs are so cute!!

@Tak - Wesley is certainly a hero dog and one of a kind. He deserves lots of love and goodies. I wonder if I could send you dog treats that I make. Like if the border would let it cross over no problem.

@Tikibirds - I am truly very sorry for your loss. Dogs (pets in general) become apart of who we are. Now, I don’t know about you, but I am pretty lost without my stinky old man-pug. Even friends have told me it’s weird to be around me without my dog at my side. They are forever with us and watching over us.

@Skybreeze Wesley's gotten treats through customs before. He's spoiled and picky though. He like chicken and duck not lamb, fish, turkey, or beef, and he likes sweet potato, carrots, and blueberry. Any dairy or cheese he likes, but the gas is unbearable. He can clear a room. I'm always happy to try a new treat. I think it's good for him to have a little variety. Oh! He also loves coconut and sometimes oatmeal.

Well, the treats I make for my puppy friends over Christmas he may enjoy. So I will try and send some to you in hopes they will get through. :)

I have a 6 year old Corgy mix named Foxy girl. She came to me through my mom friend after I lost my Great Dane Desiel who was my world.

She is a little prissy spoiled diva but you got to love her. Fun fact she does not bark at all.

Some times I really wish Clover didn’t bark, because she’s bossy as heck. -_- Like if your not playing with her 24/7 she will yell at you.

We currently have maybe 20ish dogs at the sanctuary. I don't count because when I do, something bad happens to a dog. I dunno why. It's a jinx I avoid in any case. Our oldest is Pinkie at 19, the youngest a border collie named Buster who is about 6 moths. He was surrendered a month or so ago. Sweet pup. He's already had 5 homes, so he will not be adopted out. No dog should pass through so many hands just hoping for a home. He'll live with us till he's old and grey.

We primarily deal in smaller dogs now, so I can save more at a time. Feeding and boarding big dogs is so much more expensive. I realized once that one Great Dane equaled 11 chihuahuas as far as feed. :D So for our permanent residents, I try to go small. We have 4 poms, a collie, a border collie, a medium lab mix, and many little mutts. All adorable, all with a sad story to tell.

When we give treats I like to give them the hard biscuits or big meat bones you can score from butchers. I'd love to spoil them with all sorts of luscious yums, but so many mouths run into serious cash. Plus the cats and ponies and other critters all wanna eat too.

I love that you're starting a pet centered business, that's awesome! You'll have so much fun testing all the yum yums on happy little dogs. I've always noticed my dogs prefer beef over chicken, but they'll devour both. Most adore pumpkin, and any really strongly scented treat is favoured over all others.

I used to hae a dog but he passed away in March. He was 15.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that! I know you had been worried about his health. You have my utmost sympathy.

@evilbunnyfoofoo - that’s so awful that anyone could pass around a pup so young. Yes puppies are a handful but they are a life time commitment. They didn’t choose you, you chose them. Ugh. Like Clover is mine until the day we die (because I’ve decided we’re going out Thelma and Louise style). I wish I had the space to have my own rescue. And a donkey. I really really want a donkey.

It's really weird that new little Buster had so many homes because the original Buster Times Seven, a little dog who had 7 homes, was the inspiration for me to slow down on rescue and focus on giving forever homes to dogs and cats who were 'unadoptable'. and become a sanctuary. I rescued Buster Times Seven back in 1997 from in front of Washington elementary school where he followed a child to school. The janitor there beat him with a hose, right in front of the children, trying to get rid of him. I took him home with me and tried to find his owners but nothing. So I doctored him up, got him healthy and decided to adopt him out. They brought him back a week later, said he was 'too wild' or similar crap. I adopted him out again, then discovered they gave him to someone else! And that family disliked him and set him loose. I found him living in a parking lot. I was stunned to rescue him TWICE. I thought I wouldn't adopt out out again, but a lady begged for him. Grudgingly, I sent him home with her. A month later I got a call from the pound saying they had some death row dogs and could I please save one or two? So I rushed up to get the dogs before they were put down and THERE WAS BUSTER. The woman begged for him and then gave him to the pound because who knows? I was livid. Buster almost died. And I vowed right then he would never leave my side. He lived to be 15, he was the best dog you could ever ask for. He had gone full circle...

So I changed his name from Buster, to Buster Times Seven, to remind me of how many times he was passed around. I only had one thing I asked of people when they adopted out animals from me... if they couldn't keep them, to please bring them back or call me and I'd come get them. I realized people couldn't be trusted half the time so I stopped adopting out and kept the dogs no one wanted.

I laughed when I got the call about New Little Buster. He'd had so many homes already. He was obviously meant for me. He's nothing like Buster Times Seven (who was a shaggy little sandy brown mutt) but their story is the same. They passed through many hands. Imagine the stories they have to tell in Dog Valhalla. Heh. I hope I have the new Buster 15 years. Maybe more, if I'm lucky.

Man, rescues bleed money. But it's good work. I certainly recommend it. When I am at my lowest, I remember I have to keep going for them. They keep me alive.

I wanna donkey too. Someone should buy us donkeys!

I'm so glad that you rescue. I always promised that if I won a large sum of money, I would buy a giant piece of land and securely fence it against people and critters. 40 acres 10 foot fence. Then I'd start rescuing animals and have several different houses for them to live in or barns. Plus I'd pay for spaying and neutering as much as possible. Evelyn swears she wants to be a vet. Maybe we could have a sanctuary someday. With at least one goat to eat the blackberry vines. I'm not fond of rescuing the smaller overbred animals, though. Rabbits, ferrets, rats, mice, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc. No aquatic animals. I would keep a couple nice groups of chickens for eggs and meat. I have a huge weak spot for injured racers. Both horses and dogs. I'd find someone to do pr and promote my feelings on people who refuse to spay and neuter without very good reason. I'd better stop before this becomes a rant.

Either way. Great story @evilbunnyfoofoo and thank you for doing what you can for those who can't advocate for themselves.
