Do you choose to keep your duplicates of certain ponies or re-home them? I know it varies from person-to-person, but I'm just curious.

I feel like I personally would, in theory, like to keep just one of each (I don't have the space for a large collection at the moment)-- BUT now that I'm getting more interested in collecting, I've realized that sometimes if it's one I really love, I can't get myself to part with the second pony. And if I ever have one new in box, I think it would be nice to also have one loose.

I have a Legion of Minty and some are the small style and pony so yeah I keep some of my doubles.

I sell my doubles unless I feel compelled to keep a specific one or if I want it for one of my armies. Usually, if it's an upgrade, I will sell my other one.

I have a couple of duplicates 2 first tooth baby quackers, 2 twinklers, 2 curly locks, 2 goldilocks, and I think that might be it. As for baby surprises and Surprise. I have lost count. I have to do a recount someday. I dont have a huge army and Im fine with whatever I have at the moment.

I kept all mine until forced by financial trouble to sell.

One of the sorrows of adulthood, having to be practical and willing to sell off our beloved collections to stay afloat. Sorry to hear it happened to you. Medical bills can be absolute budget destroyers.

I admit, I stopped opening my new Ponies and started keeping them in the packages just in case I'd have to sell them later. I wanted them to be worth as much as possible. My spouse is getting her doctorate and we are literally bleeding money. Hopefully things will even out. I'm getting more commissions, so the more paintings I sell the less likely I might have to give up any ponies becomes. I do like eating though, so I gotta be open minded to maybe parting with some.

I only keep duplicates in specific situations, mainly if the two ponies are different enough that I consider them to be different characters (like MO and store version Napper). Even with my army ponies, they're all different versions of the same character except for two instances where there are sentimental reasons for keeping both. For sure space is an issue.

I usually sell or trade my duplicates... unless there is a big enough difference to identify them as variants (eg: as mentioned above, the difference between G1 sparkle + mail order sparkle ponies... stuff like different poses, extra markings/symbols (eg: cascade symbols, glitter bodies) for G3s + G4s...)

I don't usually keep duplicates of the exact same pony. However, I have a hard time letting go Butterscotches. Also, I have two mint SS Cupcakes with factory curls and although I will sell/trade one eventually, for some reason I'm not in a rush. Always like Cupcake. The other problem I sometimes have is picking which one to keep in my collection. If they both have minor flaws, I have to choose which one is best.

I tend to give my duplicates to my sister, if she wants them (like with my second Rosey Posey. Even if they're like...crazy expensive or rare, I just can't bring myself to sell them if my sister doesn't have them and she wants them). Nowadays though she's less interested in collecting ponies, so I'd probably sell/trade any duplicates I get so long as they weren't ones my sis has her heart set on. Unless it was a boy pony or Applejack....then they'd be hoarded away lol.

I realized a long time ago that if I kept every duplicate of every pony I liked that my armies would overpower my home. So I decided to take up a little bit of restoration and reselling to fund my collection. I've found that to be enjoyable, too. It always makes me happy that I was able to help someone else add to their collection. And at the same time, I can help add to mine.

For me I don't have a lot of duplicates. I do have a few and that was just an accident. I have sold off quite a bit of the accidental duplicates. I don't have room to keep them. I will keep all my Mainsail's though since she is my favorite and for some reason I am attached to each individual pony I have of her. I have a lot of Applejacks G1, but all are from different countries. Pretty soon my plan is to go through my entire collection and pick out my favorites and sell the rest. I have too many and I need to bring some order to the chaos.

This is the main reason why I trade. :) I like to help others with their collections. That is what keeps me going. That and I have been trading for 12 years.

I just intentionally got 2 identical Embers so that I can give one to a friend, like when I had 2 very nice Parasols but one had her bow, so I gave the other to a friend who was feeling nostalgic about the ponies she had as a kid.
