They did that once before, they need to do it again and offer it instore and online...You know there will be a beanie baby more than likely. Its a perfect opprotunity for them to step up and help also......

I think that is a great idea...and very appealing for the masses! I wish that it didn't take something like that though to get people to help out if they are able!

It's a very nice idea :)
But if you are thinking of Lil Tot or Star Shimmer they were for charity but just in general.

I think it takes too long to develope a new prodoct and getting it out in the stores. This cathastrophy would be far over and everyone on a rebound anyway when that pony hit the stores.
That's just my logical sense speaking to me. I don't know if that is the case, but I do think it would take to long for them to make =/

peoplae are still going to be homeless in a month, peopel are still going to be without anythign in a month, it would stillhelp

it takes longer than a month to create, produce and distribute a pony. you're talking more like 6 months.

Yeah, that was the amount of time I was thinking too. Maybe even more.
It's not a few weeks project and them *bam* it's done. It takes a while. A long while... =/

A raffle here wouldn't be out of the question though! Or even a sale, with the proceeds benefiting the hurricane victims. I'm sure someone will come up with something shortly, if they haven't already :)

good idea

i think it's a great idea too, i would buy...of course! you get to help out and get a pony..sweet!

Well, someone already came up with the idea of selling the rights to a custom on Ebay.

It's in another topic though. Look around and you'll find it :)

Hasbro should go on this website ,they would get a bunch of good ideas! :D

Well, couldn't they just take a pony they are GOING to release, and turn her into a charity pony?? As in, lets say they have a pony called Kakamakalaka (Where the #### did that name come from?!) coming out, could they not just stick a "Charity Pony for Hurricane Relief!! Buy It NOW, FOOOOLS!!" sticker on all the boxes, then sell her as charity pony?? Or am I missing stuff??

   at Spooky!!! Maybe they should just change her name to Stormy Waters or something!

LOL, well maybe they could do that.
Then again, I don't know how picky they are about sticking to a "release-program" that they probably have.
I guess we will never know cuz' I'm 99% positive that the thought of a charity pony for this reason hasn't even crossed their mind

Well they could do that, but again it means that the many months that they have spent designing the box will be useless. Like diet said, it takes many months to make a pony and have it to the shops.

Also, if a consignment of ponies is sent via ship to the store it takes many months, so if any new ponies are going to be out this month they are already liable to be in transit, of which it is too late to do anything about. The same goes for any promo material that is displayed in stores.

The short term fix would be to put a sticker on the box, for employees to stick on in the storeroom of a store before displaying them to the public, but that would mean lots of money spent. Since it would be thousands of dollars spent doing that, they would be more than likely want to print it in China, where it is cheaper than the USA, which again, takes months.

It's a nice thought, but Hasbro are after money and are more than likely thinking about the increased profit months down the line (because new toys have to be bought) rather than a short term gesture. I very much doubt that Hasbro being a corporate giant will actually do something to benefit the hurricane victims. Plus the fact is that last quarter they made a loss, donating to charity will further increase the loss, which is something they wish to avoid.

I still think it's a plausible idea....

The effects of this hurricane will be felt for more than 6 months, this is in the billions of dollars range, and there will still be people needing help from it I would guess more than a year from now...

someone should suggest it to Hasbro....

maybe they could do a pre-release that all proceeds went to help the hurricane victims, and package it in a bag, with a sticker, like bay breeze.... then it wouldn't be messing up any boxes, etc. They did it for the fair on what I would say is fairly short notice sorta...

I think it could be done...

I am not sure about the USA, but I think if a coporate does donate to charity, it can actually report it and get a tax cut. At least we can do it in SIngapore ^^ The amount we donate to charity can be write off in our income tax for the month.

However if I were Hasbro, I wouldn't be making a Hurricane Charity Pony, it'll probably be taken by the public that they're trying to make use of the situation to make a haul! And that is building a negative image for the company itself = bad bad bad idea!

I'm really shocked that Hasbro hasn't made a donation of cash or toys yet (at least not according to their website.) I know they have for the victims of some previous hurricanes. :?

~LM~

Yes, any charitable donation is a tax write off. This would likely help them with their loss, not increase it.

Has anyone e-mailed Hasbro with the idea yet I wonder?
