Well, free-ish

Two years ago, actually to be precise 26 months ago. A coworker was telling me about a rebate app that she liked using, one where you get cashback on purchases mainly at grocery stores but all sorts of other retailers too. The rebates you redeem you can cash in for gift cards or just send the money into your Paypal account. She seemed really hooked on it and I was intrigued, so I signed up and started redeeming rebates on stuff I was purchasing anyways.
I'm always on the lookout for "extra" money to support my pony habit and quickly decided that this particular app was going to be my Rapunzel fund. I've always grappled with the idea of buying her, on the one hand I intend to complete the US collection so it has to happen eventually, on the other hand how can I possibly bring myself to spend THAT much on a small, plastic toy. So, with my first few dollars in my app account I declared to my husband that this is my Rapunzel fund and eventually, one day, little by little I will earn enough in these rebates to buy the most expensive US pony.
Now, for it to be fair I couldn't buy a bunch of extra stuff that I wouldn't normally buy just to redeem the rebate but on regular purchases of things we typically get I started building up my balance. For the past 26 months I have saved every receipt, checked them against the app almost daily and with .25 here, and 1.00 there it slowly added up to the final amount I needed, 750.00! Yep, ponies, 750.00 in stupid little rebates over the past 2 years and I finally did it! I got my Rapunzel!
Now, I'm not quite sure what I'll do with myself LOL I guess I'll keep building it up towards the next high dollar pony I need. There are certainly faster ways to gain that but I'm proud I stuck with it for so long and can say I technically got a free Rapunzel! See, every pony there is hope! It can be done!

Ain't she a beaut! I'm working on constructing her a tower display shelf. Will of course share when it's complete :D

That is so awesome @Gingerbread! Really. Amazing. I have to admit, she might be the prettiest rapunzel I've seen. So happy for you.

Prince: Rapunzel Rapunzel. Let down thine golden and pink...wait a minute. Pink? What is going on here?

*climbs* Why is there a pink pony here instead of a fair maiden?

Punzie: Ouch! That's my tail your pullin on bub! :madpony: *stomps on hand*

Nice! Is that ibotta or a different app? I have not been as consistent as I should be with ibotta to get money back. That's an amazing amount that you have done there.

Yes, it was Ibotta. I think it's ok to share that info. Just not supposed to put up links to other stuff like that.

So, do you go through there for online shopping for money back or mainly just ones you scan your receipt through? I always forget to look there first when I online shop. So, I usually miss out on those savings. I have had Ibotta for about 2 years I think, and have not quite made it to $100. Tell me your secrets! lol.

I do most of my grocery shopping at Walmart and Kroger, I will usually skim through the rebates quickly before I go to the store if I have time, if not I just check them after and see if I got lucky on anything. I would say it was probably half grocery and other stores like, Hallmark and JoAnn's that I used receipts for and half the mobile shopping rebates, I always do my ebay purchases through it and then other things like etsy, groupon, petco, the auto parts store. If there is a mobile rebate and the store offers free shipping or pick up I'll buy it through the app to get the rebate. For example yesterday my husband replaced a part on my car. Had to buy it right away because it needed to be fixed ASAP but there was a rebate for Advanced Auto and they have the item in store for immediate pick up. Instead of just sending him to buy it I purchased it through the app and then he just ran up to the store and got it. No shipping costs and gets me 7% cash back on a 100.00 car part. I ordered Frank's flea/tick stuff from Petco through the app with a rebate that made it cheaper then where I usually buy it and free shipping so why not? I would suggest just taking the time to really flip through the rebates and see what they have before making purchases, not to necessarily influence what you're buying but making you aware of the options.

What a fabulous story. My brain works like that too. You earned it and that makes it more special. There's nothing like setting a goal and finding ways to make it happen. Even sweeter when you have to wait and keep at it until the money is all there. YAY you.

I need to check this out. Might be a good way to save for a few of my grails as well!

She's so lovely. You got a really lovely gal there!
