Hello! A while ago a user on this forum created a project for collecting transcripts of pre-G4 shows/movies, to help ESL and HOH viewers (like me!). That thread has long been dead and sometime last year the URL on the project expired. I have PMed the user and gotten no reply, so until future notice I am considering that project defunct. However, I am here to revive it!

Unfortunately I didn't think to archive the URL because I didn't expect it to expire (it was hosted on a service called homeip, which I'm not familiar with, whereas I tend to use tumblr for this sort of thing) so I have lost all of the transcripts except some MLPnF ones, which I saved for my own use since it's my favourite of the old gen shows. Thank you to Lancer for writing these, and thank you to Gusty365 and MyLittleWiki for maintaining an episode guide!

Also some general shoutouts:
Does anyone have any other transcripts, or access to DVDs with subtitles?
If anyone is skilled at turning transcripts into subtitle files, I'd appreciate your help too! I have limited experience from my youtube channel and from an obscure show fandom (EMDT), but I can't use youtube's maker because uploading full episodes would get me in trouble, and I'm not the fastest at other methods.

Through the Door
Season 2:

I have The Movie, the complete classic series, and Tales all on dvd with captions. I don't always have lots of time right now to re-watch, because my life is a bit hectic currently. But maybe I could help?

Thanks @RomanticPrincess! How do you feel about DRM removal? I could walk you through it if you don't have the tech savvy, but if you're morally opposed, I'm not sure you can help, lol! I don't believe it hurts the DVD at all, but it might void the warranty on your player.
(ftr I do have DVDs, but the european ones don't have subs, and don't have every episode)

I'm not sure how to work computers like that... But! I don't mind sitting down and typing out on my computer a transcript of both verbalization and brief explanations of actions taking place on-screen (like one of those descriptive video things). I've been thinking of doing this for awhile actually, but if other people would be interested too, it may give me extra motivation to get on it.

I'm also totally willing to do manual transcription. :) I've watched all of the episodes so many times for my youtube channel that even with my SPD I understand every word. But first I'm looking into other avenues that are less labour-intensive, like extracting SRTs and compiling transcripts from other users.
Is that a hard no on the DVD extraction method, then? Or would you be willing to give it a try with instructions?

Bumping this to announce that my new site is up! And to be more clear about what I need help with.

The site is still heavily under construction but it is now fit to be seen by non-html eyes! XD Please don't report wonky formatting and broken links just yet, I promise I already know the issue but haven't got around to fixing it; there are nearly 30 episodes and over 50 characters! That's a lot of pages to make!

____________________________________________________________________________

I still need:
Urgent:
  • Anyone who owns the american DVDs and is willing to work with me to extract the subtitles (this will not damage the DVD and I will guide you through the technical stuff :coolpony:)
  • Anyone who has a transcript collection
Non-urgent:
  • Anyone who is skilled at turning plaintext into .SRT (technical stuff )
  • Anyone who has contact with :blue:user Lancer, founder of ponyrescuehome, to point her at me [link 1 link 2]
  • Anyone who has contact with :snuzzle:user AllGenPonyFan, to point them at me [link 1 link 2]
PS: "urgent" means high-priority. There's no time limit on this ^_^ I have simply categorised them so that if you can only help me with one thing, you know which one to offer. That said, I would love to get the "urgent" things done as soon as possible so that I can get my site finished and start promoting it! I'm earning no money from this and it is solely an attempt to improve accessibility for new fans! Subtitles and transcripts are a great help to people with certain disabilities (like mine) and to people whose first language is not english (mine is, but I also speak spanish and watch spanish language TV so I know the struggle XD). Subtitles have been a legal requirement since 1990 (ie, after MLPnF aired) so it is in fact illegal for Hasbro to air reruns or put episodes on netflix (law from 2010) unless they write some. I don't expect them to approach me with this, but it does highlight just how essential these accommodations are.

I have the Complete Series DVD as well as the My Little Pony: The Movie and I'm fairly computer/tech literate. I could probably navigate it by myself, what format do you need the subtitles in? Just text? Or a specific file format?
(I'm also imiya on Tumblr if that's easier ;))

Thank you very much! Any format will do, but .srt or .txt are ideal :) Of course, plaintext is very easily converted to .txt ;)
And yep, tumblr is waaaay easier for sharing this stuff. If you could paste the text in my submit box that'd be perfect!

Sorry for the delay, I just got back from bronycon and a wisdom teeth surgery. Do you still need all of the episodes, or just some?

Oh my, I hope you are recovering well from your surgery! I need a lot of the episodes, but not all. The movie, the specials, and a few of season 1 (less than half) are covered, with Lancer from ponyrescuehome, but I need everything else. Thanks again for helping!

Hi! I'm not dead! XD

This project ground to a halt in 2019 because I got discouraged, but recent developments have got me working on it again! :)

The website is still a mess, but good news! I have finished transcribing the second half of The Glass Princess, and Carrehz/Mew linked me to her transcript collection, with Bright Lights, Crunch the Rockdog, and Somnambula!

That's great news!! Im glad that you decided to resume the project.

I did a couple of the short ones this week! :satisfied:
Pony Puppy and The Great Rainbow Caper are up!

It would still be a HUGE help if someone with access to the DVD could get in touch! I've been trying my best to get a copy for myself but I'm not finding it for any less than $300 :sadpony:

HUGE thanks to @TheRogasylummlp for sending me some recovered files from the AllGenPonyFan project :lolpony:

There was a full transcript for Mish Mash Melee in there (credited to Lancer and Mew/Carrehz, although I don't see it on either of their websites ), and two partially-completed transcripts which I have managed to finish! That's Would-Be Dragonslayer and Through The Door.

Still no progress on the DVD, though.
