I gave in today and opened my Island Delight and Summer Shores & Ocean Dreamer set. I've opened several of my other G3 ponies cuz I just couldn't resist the urge to break them out of those boxes and play with thier hair and let them be free.Yet the collector side is like 'No! Don't do it! They'll lose value!' Even though I don't think I'd ever sell my beloved ponies, old or new.I wonder if I'd be able to resist the urge if I was ever able to buy a G1 MIB......Sometimes I just feel like taking all of my G3 ponies out of thier boxes and letting them roam free in my room like thier predecessors.
 
I don't see a problem with opening G3s if you want to play with them. I have a dozen or so MIB, but would open them all without qualms (except maybe the Spring Bucket thing) if I ever decided I wanted to play with them. I mean, if you REALLY regret it and want one MIB later, you could always get one from another collector. There are so many now that do leave their ponies MIB and are constantly selling that it wouldn't be too difficult.

Besides, I've opened my Breezie scooter pony, and replaced everything in the box. So if you really regret opening them, you could just repack it and only you would know the difference.

How on earth do you open ANY G3 package and manage to not rip it apart totaly? I can't get my G3's out without totaly destroy the package. Talk about childproof packing :roll:

I don't see a problem with opening G3's. Most of them are still avalable in stores (we still have some of the first ones in the stores here) and like ABrownCrayon said. People are buying tons of them to have MIB and sell and so on. So right now they haven't really got that high value MIB. They are pretty much worth what you can buy them for.
Except maybe those special ones like the Winters and Disney Princesses and so on.
It's a totaly different story with G1's since they are not avalable anymore... don't get me started. I will go on forever and probalby start a flamewar :roll:

The point is - so far it doesn't really matter or upset anyone that you open G3's. You can just go down to the store and buy new ones to keep MIB :)
 
It certainly free's up alot of space when you de-box.

Erica, there's an actual scientific method to opening the boxes, lol. It took me ages to figure out the easiest way (And everytime a new set comes out, Hasbro seems to change something...grr!), but I've pretty much mastered being able to get to the pony without wrecking the box at all. :) So it is possible!

I don't think there's anything wrong with opening G3's. Tere's so many that it doesn't really matter, and really, it's all about personal preference. You don't collect for other people, you collect for yourself. :)

I'm amazed by you people who can open the packages and keep them neat.

My packages looks like they have been in a fight with an angry dog - and lost big time.
But I don't really care for saving the new packages anyway. Maybe a backcard once in a while if at least that one looks good after trying to break in to the packages.

lol, it's not hard. It's all about taking the two tabs at the bottom apart, and slicing the tape along all the edges...the hardest part is making sure you find all the tape, lol. Still...sometimes the angry dog way is the best way to go. :wink:

i usually get the a second set of the ones i like and open that one. I know that the value of g3s are not going up but i just think it's nice that they're in their boxes/container cause it looks more like a collector's container/box.

Might just be my opinion, but I do think that the G3's will be worth at least a little more MIB than they are now - in the future. Like 25 years from now I think all MIB G3's (even the really common ones) will be worth more.
But that is waaay in the future. Now we don't need to think about it. They are still produced :)

But I also buy two of each when I can. One to open and one to keep MIB.
Except the real pretty ones. Like the Winters or Hidden Treasure. I think they look so beautiful in their boxes so I don't even WANT to take those out :)
