I like to watch the new TV-show, but not the ponies/toys
I think they look like elephant-footed little mice, more than ponies
The older ponies can be decorative, the new ones are more toys than anything
It's the only generation I don't collect
The only exception is the new "snowglobe" ponies if I can get my hands on one

What do you think about generation 4?

Some love them others don't.

I agree with you. They look little bit weird to me. With that tiny chub and huuuuuge eye is seems so inbalance. But nowdays all toys have getting in that direction -.-.. big head, big eyes, tiny body and slim... I guess in dolls they kind of represent the beauty image (like bratz dolls) or thats what I think. But they have taken it to the level where no real human can be..

I have watched couple of episode of friendships is magic and I like it but then again the ponies are like ADHD... I miss the old drawing techniques and stories *sigh*

So you can guess that I collect g1 ponies only :p but I do not mind G4 and some of them are cute but I would never buy them myself.

Yes, I think the older movies had better design, softer colors (more pleasant to watch) and not, like you said ADHD ponies

I don't mind G4, but my preference remains with G3. :ponylove: So many ponies, poses, and names that don't have "Dazzle this!" and "Dazzle that!" slapped in it.
G4 only have a handful of brushable ponies, many of them being Mane 6,Princess, and CMC repeats and have only 2 poses. Too many molded hair ponies (equines in real life don't have hard, permanent hairstyles, so why should the toys? ;) ) and almost look like cats to me :s

And for people that complain that G3s are too "girly" dude, that's when you're imagination comes in...use it!!!! XD

I started out hating them because of their deformed faces and vowing I'd never start collecting them. When I found a Diamond Rose on the flea market though, I sort of hung on to her, planning to sell her eventually, but she grew on my somehow.
Watching the show also helped this along and now I've finally caved and started collecting G4... and I actually like how the look >_>
It's weird how that happens, but it's not the first time for me.

I've always been a collector of G1, have collected G2 and G3 but I've run out of space so decided for them to go. For G4 I've made some space, but I'll need a bigger house eventually, my current one is too petite.

I like the G4s. At first glance I was somewhat underwhelmed, but each generation has brought change, and we as a collective of collectors have balked at each one. Quite typically change isn't immediately embraced because let's face it, people like stability. Every tweak or resculpt has people losing their minds. Every group of collectors has it happen.

I know the Transformer community is the most change intolerant group of Changophobes to have ever entered the internet. Each new fig brings protests and petitions, they're so touchy. But then, I do so like the FLame Wars they bring, so it must continue. For my amusement.

My main complaint is the usual one. I want more variety. I love the Main Six, just like I loved the Core Seven, but C'MON! NEW PONIES!

How hard can it be?

While I wish a bigger majority were to the same scale as G1 (and I definitely agree that there should be loads more variety in both ponies and poses!) I don't mind the look of the G4. I mean...Lauren Faust worked on Powerpuff Girls and Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends just to name a few--all of which had a unique and disproportional look to the characters. But I grew up watching those shows more so than the G1 of MLP--so for my G4 is almost more familiar and endearing because of the way they look.

Besides that, G4 is the show that lead me to this forum in the first place...so I gotta stick by the spark that lit the fire. :D

No offense to anyone, but G4 just ain't my cup of tea. They look like they have mouse heads to me. I like Nightmare Moon, though, just because she looks cool. I'm a fan of all the other generations, though.

As for transformers, man, what is there not to like about change? Any kind of giant robotic alien-thingy is cool to me! I think it's funny when people get so upset about the changes in style though.

I don't dig gen 4. Some of em would be cute if they looked equine but they aren't so they're not. In my personal opinion. If you like em go for it! And may the blessings of the pony gods shower you with lotsa goodies

I agree with evilbunnyfoofoo, some more characters would be nice. As a European collector, I would appreciate some more background characters to be released without having to go thru Ebay to get store specials. I would even buy another mane6 pony if she came together with, say, screwball. I would also appreciate more poses or poseability like Silverbeam's creations have. I believe kids would also love poseable ponies!
More male characters besides Shining Armor, I would buy Big Macintosh in a heartbeat, if they would take the time to sculpt his body in the brushable scale.
I like the little blind bag figures, but the Playful ponies are more the size I prefer.

and... DISCORD :D I soooooo want him in the brushable scale!

I never liked G4 because they didn't look like ponies to me. I felt insulted by the design, like I did with G2 – but then again, I fell in love with G2 very quickly after buying a few of them. Thus when I found some G4s for sale on a local online store, I decided to buy one for fun. It came as a blind box and was the only one they had left, so I couldn't get more that way. It turned out to be Applejack (the pony I had wanted the least). I put her on her desk and as I kept looking at her, I got attached to the cute little bobble-headed pony. I quickly decided that I needed to find more. I now have close to 50 of them, and 14 doubles. I collect both loose and mint, but only different characters and not mane 6 variants. They take up a lot less space than the G1s I have do, so they're perfect for me, as I don't have a lot of room for my collections.

I like G4 because it is what got me back into MLP. I watched the show first, then I began contemplating buying the brushables. This was back in '11, so I'm kinda kicking myself for not scooping up some of the girls that are on my wishlist. But oh well. It wasn't until last Christmas when my mom bought me one of the Blind bags that I seriously considered collecting. Fast foreward a few months, I receive a BaB Twilight, and I was hooked. I really like the blind bags because they are (mostly) show accurate, and they have such a fantastic assortment of characters. Then I began collecting the brushables.

I like the design of the G4 ponies, in show, because big eyes allow for more expressions and expressions read from distances. And while I love the brushables for their colour schemes, I wish the expressiveness was utilized more with them since their eyes are so big. At least they have different eye shapes, which is nice. I agree with @evilbunnyfoofoo this generation needs waaaa~ay more variation and less repeats.

I changed my mind a bit (when I was in the toy store yesterday)
I would want (Rainbow Power) Applejack and Pinkie Pie
Also one of the ponies in the Wild Rainbow set (3 of them)

I like g4 ponies, but I probably won't collect a lot of them. Right now I only have 4 g4 ponies. I don't like how small they are compared to g1 and g3.I might get like one of each of the ponies unless they are in a special set with a different pony that I want. But I like vinyl figures, the characters and merchandise from g4. I just wish they were bigger and had more detail to them like the previous generations. But don't let my opinion change your mind. You can like what you like.;)

Thoughts about the "mane 6"

They have 6 ponies in every primary color except one, green
Rarity is white (which is not a primary color)
I think Rarity should be green, and be based on the G1 pony Mimic

Another thought is about the elements, I think:
Fire - unicorn
Earth - earth pony
Water - sea pony
Air - Pegasi
The fifth element ether "spirit" - alicorn

And they should include sea ponies in the show!
As well as other fantasy horses, like hippalectryon, hippogryph and sleipnir
What do you think they should have in the show? :)

As a child of the 80's (born in the tail end of the 70's), my heart remains with the G1 ponies. I totally skipped the G2's, and G3's kickstarted me into collecting again. The 3.5's I managed to never see, and then came the G4 explosion of everything mane 6, FiM and brony. I adore the size, colors and beauty of the varieties of ponies available in the G1 and G3 lines (more variety in G1, more colors in G3) and you got what you paid for. If you bought a $5.00 pony, you GOT $5.00 worth of MLP. I think G4 is cute and I collect them, but not as anxiously as I did G1 and G3. (Right now, I'm LOVING all of the G1 love I'm seeing out there.... I'd love to see that line make a return like it did a little bit during G3) They're awfully small and not as easy to work with for hair styling and painting (for those of us who customize). I know they're meant for little hands, but still.... as someone who works with a young lady who lacks a lot of fine motor skills, the larger ponies are just better all around.

I saw the two new princess ponies the other night at the walmart across from my house. It was the first bit of variety I've seen in the G4 line in this Rainbow Power wave. (Not counting the snowglobe ponies) It was nice to see, especially since the princesses are a bit larger than the mane 6. I may actually start an army of them simply because of their size. (The princesses were one of my favorite kinds in the G1 line)

I must say one other thing: I picked up some EG dolls in a thrift store visit a few weeks ago. It was my first time holding one. If anyone here collects them and has deboxed them, is it just me who thinks that they're a little cheap-feeling, say, compared to a Barbie doll? :-/ I won't lie, I was disappointed in Hasbro for the quality of them.

Okay, they are growing on me...after reading this thread I started looking at some of the characters and I love the way they draw Shining Armor and Nightmare moon.

I started out collecting G4 after becoming hooked on the FiM series. My pony obsession then increased to include Gen 1 and Gen 3. I do think they G4's do look a bit un-horselike, but I still think they are cute :cc:! I admit to preferring the brushable MLP's over the plastic hair ones, like the Funko ponies. After all, what's the point of having a pony if you cannot brush it??.
