Hair woes

I have two Sundazzle Sweetheart sisters with some serious frizz. Debating on how to handle the situation. I conditioned and lightly ran a flat iron over the frizz, but I didn't want to go crazy with the flat iron and ruin the crimping. I have a steamer somewhere in the house and I've heard of others using these on frizz. Suggestions?

While I'm on the topic of hair, I fear I'm impatient with factory curls. I feel like it would almost just be easier to straighten it out first and then recurl, but if the curls are still factory and messy, I should just spend the time. What's your favoured method for restoring curls if they just need tidying up?

I still brush the curl out, spray with a bit of water and recurl around a thick straw and let it go and air dry. :)

I’ve heard steamers works wonders but haven’t yet tried it myself. Although I should.. as you know I’m a fan of coconut oil to tame frizz. ;)

The Sundazzles have the same color changing hair as the sunshine ponies, so you can use heat but make sure the heat does not go above boiling temperature. Lots of patience necessary.
But, they’ll lose their crimped hair. I guess I could try to recrimp it.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do to preserver the crimping if you want frizzless hair. Best of luck taming them.

I'm dying to know where the link goes @Skybreeze it won't work for me :( I've wanted to freshen up some of my crimped pony's hair as well but they just don't make crimpers like they used to. I was talking to a sales lady in the beauty store and crimpers now are more like wave plates in my opinion, I was like, "Nah, girl. I want a crimper, like 1985 crimper. Not this new wavy crimp thing, can't even call it a crimper"! I should've never gotten rid of mine 25 years ago LOL

That sounds like a must-do thrift trip to me!

I demonstrated some patience with Molasses and fixed her factory curls up nice. I’m always tempted to take out the straws before the hair is set. So impatient. I like to do it before bedtime now because then I won’t be tempted to take it out early. Goldilocks should be done by morning.

I'm with skybreeze on how I handle the hair. You did amazing with molasses! It's quite a bit of work to restore the crimp without an '80's crimper, but you can do it with small braids. You need to get the portions just right and make sure not to twist the hair as you braid it. I use clips to get it all the way to the ends, no bands. If you do it when the hair is wet and leave it in until it's dry, then just use a pick to make sure it falls nicely. I only did it once, but it turned out fantastic. Sorry no pictures. I don't have her anymore.

Will the link work now?

This is as close as I could find to the OG hair crumpets of the 80’s without you purchasing one from EBay. ;) But there are LOTS of 80’s crimpers to choose from. I saw my old one a few times. #throwbackthursday o_O

The good old days of big bangs and crimped hair. "Girls just wanna have fun"

Sadly, my hair naturally does the big roll now if I have bangs. No hair spray needed.

My hair is super awkward especially in the humidity of the summer. I can usually get my nice “Spanish blood” waves any time of the year but the summer. In the summer my hair is a hot frizzy mess. So it’s always up in a pony tail or straightened.
But boy did I love my crimper back in the day. I’m sure my mom hated it. I was always too afraid of burning myself, so she would do it for me.

For the factory curls, try gently combing the hair back into its curl while dry. Again, patience is key, but you can usually get the hair back into its original curl that way. Then you can wash and condition (if needed), making sure to use cool water and support the hair so the curl doesn’t fall out.
