How do you keep track of your growing herd?

I have a list on this site I favorited to my phone to update.
As well as a written list in my computer, a printed version by the computer to check, and a phone/e-mail version I keep up-to-date!

There's space set up in my collection with strips of paper with the pony's name where a spot is reserved!

I'm only after certain ones, but it is still quite a hunt as I display them with their puffy sticker, ribbon and brush/comb!

Caved & bought the sitting Seashell & Bubbles even without the puffy stickers or hair bows.
And my Sweet Celebrations family is just the mom, dad, and son.
Yet to get the UK daughter, two purple neckties for the males, and a turquoise flower pick!

All in time though. :heart:

Oh yes yesss I make lists of all my ponies!
My elusive "pony files" look something like this:

G1 ADULTS:

*Brush 'n Grow Ponies*
Star Gleamer- good condition
Pretty Vision- good
Bouquet - good
etc..

*Big Brother Ponies*
Barnacle - very good
Steamer - good
Wigwam - good
etc...

I group them by generation of course,
then by specific set (tropical, big brother, flutter etc..)

My G3s I seperate by Earth, Pegasus and Unicorn.

G4s by whether I have them Mint in Box or loose.

G4 Ponies:
* MIB *
Dewdrop Dazzle
Trixie Lulamoon
Honeybuzz
etc...

*Loose*
Applejack x 2
Rainbow Dash x 1
Lyra x 3
Fluttershy x 1
etc...

This is kinda how my Pony Files look lol

But to physically keep track of them I have a large wooden dresser.
No mirror to it.. just tall with 5 drawers.
The Ponies who aren't currently on display are kept in ziplock bags,
and assigned a specific drawer.
G1 Ponies go into drawer number 1 or 2 ~
I'll usually lay them together according to their set.
So Softs by So Softs
Twinkle Eyes by other Twinkle Eyes
etc..
G3 Ponies in drawer 3 or 4 ~
G4 Ponies in drawer 4 ~

I just keep Mib G3s and G4s up on display.
Might as well lol

There's another dresser with a drawer for
the ponies I intend to sell.
I keep my bubble mailers, scissors, tape in
that drawer too :)

I only have one completed G1 Mlp set!
The Tropicals: Hula, Pina, Sea Breeze and my favorite.. Tootie Tails!
(is it Sea Breeze?.. its stupid how methodical I am, yet I can't remember
the name of an important pony lol sorry! ;) )

I think that's bout it~
As far as what I am looking for/what I want or need,
it changes from month to month really.
I don't set out to complete any collections.
I kinda just go for whatever pony I think is prettiest!
But I know I'll eventually complete another collection or two ~

I go by my memory and so far it's been working.
I think it would be fun to make a big file, and I've tried before, it's just that it takes so long and I would have to constantly update it... eh. It would make me spend a lot of time that I don't have right now!
I think I'll either stick with what I've been doing or print out one of those checklists. :winkpony:
 
So far it's by memory until I have to put them in boxes, then I run them off checklists I find online, and wait for Summer's next book. :) I don't end up with too many duplicates.


Except I ended up with a dupe set with Queen Chrysalis and a dupe pop-vinyl bobble Rainbow Dash in the last sort. I don't know how that happened.
 
My collection is small but is also growing so I use memory and sometimes paper to help. :smile:
 
I'm the laziest collector ever. I have hundreds of ponies but I don't keep track them. If I'm out and about I ask myself "Do you have this one? I might already have this one. Oh well let's buy her just in case!" Thankfully I've only bought a few doubles :lolpony:

This was pretty much me until I realised I had 6 G3.5 Pinkie's Moms. I figured it was time to try to get organised. Of course, I have a box o' Ponies waiting to be catalogued and there they sit. I'll do it.

Heh! I should have! I used several of them in last year's Stocking Stuff at the food bank though, so some are gone. I bet they had fun, ending up with happy kiddos!

This year seems to be the Year of Starsong, because she's the one I have most of.

In all seriousness, I not only printed a checklist off from Kim's Dream valley site and kept it in a binder(great for the internationals), I have both the G1 and G3 guides from Summer. These books are great , though I feel the quality of the G3 book isn't as high as the G1 book. But I've been selling off my collection slowly over the past couple years and haven't updated any of my checklists. But I also haven't really been buying ponies either. A few here and there from second hand shops when I find them, and any I do find go for sale right away.
 
I have an excel sheet where I have everyone listed by generation, and also accessories, condition, set, year, etc, etc. But I've never had a problem remembering which ponies I have - it exists more because I like making lists. :rolleyespony: It does help with the accessories though, those are harder to remember.

I have the sneaking suspicion I will never finish this list. :lolpony:

How funny I need a Starsong lol. Only version is the Ponyville and wig one. She was best pony. Best. Back then.

Will go on a break on the weekend to search for her in thrift stores and stuff. Heard someone's selling G1s for 50 cents each XD
 
Memory or keep them in my drawer. Instead of clothes, my ponies sleep tight in there! And my clothes? In boxes my ponies should be in lol
 
Wow, all of you are so much more organized than I am. But I have three daughters and trying to keep track of the over 1000 ponies and 40+ playsets we have is kinda impossible in this house. Half the house is My Little Pony! The kids get stuff down and play with it all the time and it gets rearrainged so it's tough to keep track of where stuff is. Not to mention we buy pony stuff nearly every time we shop if we see it. I wish there was a check list for all other stuff MLP merchandise related. We have tons. Toddler bed sets, lunchboxes, night gowns, onesie for a newborns, MLP rug, bath toys, shampoo and toothbrushes... I could go on but you get the picture!
 
I usually go with a wish list but, I need to update some of it I do it periodically but it can be hard to keep track of what G3s I need . There are so many of them it is overwhelming. G1s I always sort of remember what I have.
 
Guess this is an old thread? But in any case, I was keeping track of my collection via a Google Docs document, but it was so long and was annoying to scroll through when I had to update it, so I switched to using Snupps instead (website/app you can use to catalog things you own). Still have a significant amount of my collection to add on there, however (currently working on my G3s).

I look at it this way, when I start COMPLETELY forgetting what ponies I have, then I have too many. Lol. Otherwise, I pretty much know who I have (for the most part atleast. Lol.).
