REPINKING HAIR

@princessluna11706 writes~ To repink a pony's hair, drop a little red food color into vinegar to make the desired pink. soak the pony's hair until the desired color. If it's too pink, rinse in warm water until the right shade. Blow dry to set.

@Wysteria writes - Rose RIT dye? It's a close match, but not quite exact like Dollyhair's new nylon Pussycat Pink. I rehaired my Glow with it, it takes longer, but so worth it! The RIT dye is a nice quick fix too though, but you can tell the difference because the rose is more of a dusty pink and it lacks the bubble gum pink shine.

I use a pink highlighter to repink!
This is a tutorial I made ages ago but I haven't posted it online in ages so here goes :D

What you'll need:
A pink highlighter pen, a piece of paper, some household paper and of course a pony with faded hair. Repinking a pony with highlighter can be a bit messy so if you don't want pink fingers, use gloves.

I like to start with the mane. Use the highlighter to paint from the forlock and down. Use the paper to protect the table. Turn the pony over and repeat until the entire hair is covered in pink.

CAUTION!
Don't paint all the way to the root of the hair or it will cause permanent stains! The highlighter usually reaches that area in anycase when the hair is sucking up the color. If you get highlighter marks on the pony while painting you must clean it off straight away as it will leave unremovable marks. Use a cotton stick and some water or even acetone or nailpolishremover if it has started to dry already.

Same for the tail. Start at the root (leave space between color and root just as with the mane) and color it to the tops. It's easier to apply the color if you separate the hair into sections.

When the ponys hair is all pink you will have to let it dry. Use paper to wipe the hair as much as you can. Some of the color will come of, which is OK since it otherwise might stain the pony when you leave it to dry. After some time the hair will become stiff and icky as the colors dries. Personally I like to leave the pony like this for 1-2 weeks (or even more if you wish).

Rinse the ponys hair with water! Don't use soap or schampoo as this will most likely take the colors straight off. Any hair treatments to the hair like defrizzing should be done prior to the repink.

That highlighter trick looks fantastic! The results are so perfect and pretty! :ponylove: But if you do it that way, can you never wash the pony's hair with shampoo again without taking the colour off?

The highlighter trick. Its amazing! I thought that your Wind Whistler would end up so bright!

I just want to add that the highlighter trick works with other colors on platinum blond dolls.

I'm glad you people like the tutorial :D
@ladyofthenight I have actually never had to wash a pony after repinking so I'm not really sure. I do know that it's possible to fade it again with sunlight.

Love the highlighter trick wind whistler looks like new. does it work with some of the other colors?

I recently had to re-pink a ponys hair for the very first time. (I got a Dutch Singalong pony with faded hair as a birthday gift and of course didn't have the heart to re-sell it and buy one in mint condition which I would do otherwise). But as I'm pretty much useless at restoring ponies I was so very nervous about doing it XD

However there's this absolutely fantastic site that helps you with anything and everything: http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/
There I found out about the RIT dye and bough a pack of Petal Pink on Ebay. Once it arrived I just poured some hot water into a glass, poured a little bit of that dye into it and dipped away. After a fast rinse the pony looked absolutley lovely. And I couldn't believe how wasy it was :D Now I'm no longer afraid of re-pinking ponyhair :p

As it sais on the site though - beware with doing it to So Softs as the colour would most definitly get stuck in the flocking aswell.

@Slinky I've heard people saying that is does fade over time but I've kept my ponies out of direct sunlight and they haven't faded much at all as far as I can tell.
