I'm thinking, if I could, I would like to go on a Humanitarian Trip.

Have any of you gone or known anyone who has?

My best friend works for the ICRC, so it's not exactly a trip in her case. She's doing prison visits, talks to authorities, military and separarist groups and writes reports on her field trips. She got into some really dangerous situations more than once, especially in the Gaza Strip. But I presume humanitarian trips will generally offer less dangerous job opportunities, although that certainIy also depends on the country / region you would like to go to.

I have not been but one of my close nurse friends has gone on a few trips to Haiti. It really puts things in perspective when you have people who travel for hours to come to these clinics and wait hours for basic medical care. They are always so appreciative and happy to be there even when they are waiting all day and have to come so far.

My sister was in americorp. Not quite the same since it's still in the U.S. but she helped with clean up and rebuilding in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.
