Well yes, you see I usually am not one to use yarn to rehair customs because it's a pin and usually doesn't give me the look I want. But in the case of these two customs, I wanted a dreadlocks appperance and the yarn was able to do that for me.

So first up is Voodoo Gloire':

Some of you might have seen her in the Photo Hunt already. I hadn’t intended to do another voodoo pony this year, but I was commissioned to do a special one, and I was actually lacking in a hair color. So I grabbed a pony I rebaited, and pulled apart its tail so I had the color I needed. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut as I had the body free now, I started playing around with parts I had. See, I had this Glory head that I’d cut up a while back to use as a mask on another custom, but since I scraped that AFTER I’d cut and shaped and painted the part, the head was sorta useless. So it sat in my backpack. But since I had this body, I tried putting the head on it and I rather liked the look of it. So I decided I’d attempt a trail at creating a TE pony.

So first I cut the eyes out the face pieces before I put the face back into the head (I so wish I’d taken pics of her faceless-now that was creepy!). Then I discovered that the gems I had warped in baking, so unfortunately I had to put the face back together without the gems (would’ve been so much easier to put them in before but oh well). Then I filled in the gaps in the face with sculpy and baked her and thus she came out looking like this: MLP: Voodoo Gloire WIP by *KPenDragon on deviantART (my mom even showed her on her FB to scare her friend  )

Then came the easier parts; a FBR in black with the white skeletal pattern and a sealant job. I thought it was cute to make the hip hole a star XDD

Then came the first annoyance; the yarn hair. I’m usually not one to rehair with yarn because I don’t like it much, but I wanted to test out and see how well it worked as dreds. So she was rehaired all with purple yarn, then I tried a “hair falls†tie around wit the blue to put it up with. I mimicked that in the tail, but it’s more apparent in the mane. My mom yays it’s a “pineapple head doâ€

The second annoyance…actually nightmare was the eyes. I tried to put them in from the inside with cly but the eye holes now were larger due to the baking, so the gems fell through. Then I couldn’t get the clay to stick t the inside of the head and not to me and when I did it wouldn’t go on flat. I fought with it a good 20-25 minutes before I finally gave up and just stuck the clay to the inside then tried putting the gems in from the outside. But no, the flat backed gems wouldn’t go in from the outside even though they’d fall out from the inside. So I glued to gems together and stuck them on that way. They stick out more than I wanted, and when I moved her to photo her BOTH her eyes fell out ><. So I had to super glue them to the sculpy (who knew you could do that!), so they’re stuck on there again hopefully. She looks decent, and I’m happy with her.

Second is my Lordi OC Lougarry the voodoo-werewolf:

Idt I've shown her sketches here before, so if you're interested in a reff here you go: MLP: Lordi Ponys Pairings by *KPenDragon on deviantART , LMLP: Bye Bye Kita by *KPenDragon on deviantART (I actually got flamed by random internet trolls for the first picture-I laughed about for a week after I reported them)

She started life off as a chewed on Rainbow Flash (that one leg seems to get chewed the most on this pose). She was given a FBR in black, then was given a white mask and o designed her symbol myself to mimic those the band members have; it’s supposed to mimic her head and necklace. Her eyes were painted in a blue with a coating of GitD paint; I liked the black eye shadow as a compensation for the lack of eyelashes.

Her tail I made from black faux fur, stuffed with cotton balls and a pipe cleaner for a little pose ability. It turned out longer than I’d planed, but I like it. She is a wolf-pony hybrid after all.

Then her mane Lou has a wolf mane/dreds, so for a while I’ve been looking up tutorials on how to make dreds/hair falls. I went and bought some special yarn even, but then I realized regular yarn would work fine-it gave me enough volume for what I wanted. So I went with it. I added the “ring†of plugs in the front of her head, as well as a middle row for extra volume too. I braided the colored segments because I couldn’t find a way to twist it and make it stay; I like how it turned out though. I feel her hair style matches her drawing concept very well.

The teeth on her accessories were translucent sculpy I left unpainted; the other beads are random sea beads. I think the necklace is a little big, but I still like it.

So that’s my Lougarry. I’m still debating what bait to use for Awa, and once the new drummer’s here I’ll have to start planning for that one too ^^; But iz fun ^^

And then just for fun, a lovely pic of my Lougarry and Kita ponys ^^
