(I originally intended to post this in the 'What else do you collect? thread, but the high volume of photos made me decide otherwise. I don't want to crash anyone's browser!)
Tidied my room today and thought you guys might have fun looking around. =] My room is normally a lot more minimalist, but I recently pulled *all* of my collections out of storage. Well... most of the collections, anyway. There's another bin full of plushies, and Barbies, and ponies, but I reached an impasse and couldn't set anymore out on display without looking a hoarder. (We won't talk about the art, guitar, and fantasy / sci-fi books I have tucked away...)
I did this for a couple reasons - main one being the dolls / ponies were getting squished from constant storage. The other is I'm doing a no-buy challenge for 2023, and it's easier to justify not purchasing anything when you realize you really don't have the space to put it. The third, and most important, is that I'm recovering from emotional / mental stress and being surrounded by things that (as Marie Kondo put it) spark joy is very helpful. I thought I'd outgrown most of my interests - gaming, (clean) anime, toys - but actually I pushed these things away out of a fear of being judged; a fear people wouldn't like me for who I am. And I've also learned that those who judge me for superficial things, like hobbies, don't care for me as a person in the first place. I finally understand C.S. Lewis' quote about childish things.
Anyways! Sorry for rambling. The whole purpose of this post is that these things make me happy and I want to share them. Excuse the poor quality; it's very foggy outside. Have fun playing I Spy!
A few of my favorite areas:
Excuse the blank space in this photo - looking for one last metal sign to fill that area.
My bedside table! I love how Howdy looks like a bartender next to my essential oils and coffee syrups haha. I might move those... afraid one of these days I'll put oil in my coffee instead of syrup. e___e
My Barbies! Well, favorite Barbies anyway. The others are in a bin, along with pets. I also have most of the original Rockers line, their playsets and accessories!
Shoutout to Diva, who is probably my all-time favorite. Hollywood Hair is a close second.
An honorary photo of Caramel Crunch, one of my childhood ponies and the one that causes me the most grief. I live in constant fear of messing up her curls, despite her surviving my tween years and being haphazardly tossed in a bin during a wildfire evacuation.
A modest selection of plushies. I'd happily die smothered by 'em, but didn't feel like pulling the other twenty or so out of the attic. I'll find another pic somewhere.
And last but not least, another favorite childhood pony.
Once spring rolls around, most will go back in storage, 'cause the only thing I hate more than dusting is seeing things collect dust. But for now, I'm having fun.
