MLPTP's Summer Photo Hunt 2020

What is a Photo Hunt?​

A Photo Hunt is an event where the organizers post a range of photo challenges to be completed by the competitors. You then take a photo with whatever elements are required in the task and post the submission. (This photo must belong to you.) Your photos will earn points based on your ability to complete the task on time and with all the elements of the task included in the submission. Some tasks may have bonus points available for including specified things.

There will also be Lightening Rounds in which a new task will be available with only a very limited amount of time to accomplish the photo submission.

Sneaky Points will be awarded for any submission that is deemed to have completed the heart of the task, but perhaps didn't exactly follow the letter of the law. For example: a task calls for a photo of a pony and a tree. The submission is of a pony and a poster with a tree in it. This will count for Sneaky Points. Every task should include the real items asked for in the task assignment. Sneaky points are half-value of the points available for any given task.

Rules:​

1. Photo Editing - No photo editing of ANY kind! (You can crop and re-size) Altering the photo is NOT acceptable! No photoshopping whatsoever! This includes color adjustment, smudging, blurring, adding or subtracting from the photo. You may not CHANGE the photo in any way.

2. Official Hasbro Ponies Only - Any generation is welcome, but only official Hasbro MLPs should be used in the entries. (Sorry fakies, we love you, but stay out of our contest!)

3. Text - You may NOT add text to a photo or a submission thread! Only the photo is accepted. This includes adding captions for the photos. You are welcome to do that in the Hunt Chatter Thread.

4. No using existing photos - No posters, books, pictures or computer images accepted. Your photo must portray the real thing. (If you are stuck and you must use an existing photo you will only be awarded Sneaky Points.)

Photo Requirements:​

Photos - When posting photos from your phone, the file size tends to be too large for the forum. You can easily use a photo resizing app such as "Photo & Picture Resizer" for Android.

Content - All content should fit within the parameters of the site rules.

No Changing Entries - Once you post your entry do NOT change it. The mods will be watching all entries and if it is discovered that you have changed your photo, your entry will be disqualified.

Photo Thread posting - The ONLY posts accepted within each step/bonus photo threads are photo entries. Please keep comments and explanations to The Official Hunt Chatter Thread. These threads need to be kept free of comments to enable easy viewing so the hunters and mods can easily see the entries and not lose track of things. Comments in these threads will be deleted.

A Few Rule Clarifications:​

Each photo submission needs to be of a photo you took and uploaded. Images from the internet are not accepted as valid entries. If the MODs discover a submission does not belong to the member who submitted it, that contestant will be disqualified from the Hunt.

There is absolutely NO TEXT allowed in the photo submissions! This includes adding text to the photos, submitting a caption with the photo, or submitting a title with the photo... and anything else that I can't think of right now. Your photo must speak for itself and should only include things that are actually IN the photograph. (All those texty type things are absolutely welcome in the Hunt Chatter Thread, so save them for conversations over there.) Any text included in a submission will be removed from the thread and the contestant will only receive Sneaky Points for that round.

A fantastic MYSTERY prize will be awarded to the Photo Hunter with the most points at the end of the contest

Question for clarification: Can there be text in a photo if it's written on something, like if it's on the cover of a book or written on paper? Are there limits to what text can be in an unedited photo?

If the text included within the photo itself somehow relates to the task being completed.

For example: the task requires a pony at a bookstore. If the photo includes a sign that reads "bookstore," or if there are books in the photo and the titles of the books are visible. Those would be fine.

But if you are using a piece of paper (or something) in the photo to create a caption for the pony, or to have the pony saying something (like a comic), or in any attempt to "explain" the photo. That would not be okay.

Does that clarify?

The panel of Mod Judges will be the final arbiters of whether each submission has completed the task.

I would love to enter, but would I be at a disadvantage if I only have very few pony accessories? I also don't have doll houses or miniature stuff with which the ponies could be staged. Just our house and the garden.

Has this been done before? Perhaps I could look at previous contest's photos and see what was required then to make up my mind if it makes sense to enter.

You could absolutely participate fully with only one pony and your own home. You may just end up with sneaky points occasionally.

We have hosted photo hunts in the past. If you go to the Event Archive (a subforum of the MLP Discussion area) you can see threads from the Christmas Hunt we hosted a few years ago on the very first page. And if you go back further, I'm sure you will find others.

The tasks for our hunt will take into account that not everyone has hundreds of ponies, or accessories, or playsets. And also that many of our members may still be on some form of lockdown and can't get out into the world. Please feel free to sign up!

The TP has been my online pony home since 2005. The wealth of knowledge and friendly "faces" is amazing.

What's your favorite thing about the Summer season/months of June-August?
Lately, central air. Seriously, I love the beach. Everything's green. The birds and the bees. (And the flowers and the trees.) Trips to the custard stand. Grilling.
